I felt this. Deeply. This photo is of my baby boy Conner when he was around 6 months old. This is the closest I’ll get to keeping him safe asides from when he was inside my belly. I will spend the rest of my life fighting for his life and ALL the Black babies who deserve to return home to their Mamas.

The emotions are so big right now and at times I’m not sure how to describe how I feel. If you are new here, welcome🌈. If you have been with me for awhile, thank you💛

I’m learning too. This is the hardest and most important thing I will ever do.

A lot of my White friends have said that they’re not sure what to say or they don’t want to say the wrong thing. It’s okay not to know what to say. This need to “get it right” is that empathy talking to you and saying “I don’t want to cause anymore pain to Black people.” I hear you.

The pain you are feeling is real and unfamiliar. Black folks have lived this pain their entire lives. So show up in whatever lane you choose to bring an end to hundreds of years of racism that has consumed every layer of what we call LIFE. This load is heavy and you and I have some unpacking to do. Yes, we are unpacking shit we didn’t even know we were carrying.

I have a dear friend who cares deeply about what is happening and genuinely wanted to talk to me. No pretense. I expressed to her that she has a strong voice in her church. That is her lane. What I see at times is the face of neutrality about racism expressed through a biblical verse. Black people are being murdered. I would say neutrality is not an option.

My White brothers and sisters there will be many fails. Many. If we think there won’t be an avalanche of “not getting it right” what do we think we are dealing with? We are trying to move mountains with our individual and collective work. We keep going. We try harder. We dive into the truth by reading about our history. How did we get here? We open our minds and our hearts. We do better. We try harder.
This is our marathon. I’m taking deep breaths and exhaling. Never stopping #blacklivesmatter
