  • Most of you probably don't know the story behind Chester and I.
Before adopting him, I did a lot of research on what it's like owning a bunny and new it was a lot of work. I was up for the challenge.
I went to the SPCA and adopted him. Brought him home in his playpen which was in my bedroom and I planned to keep him in there and roam my room supervised.
The first few days I was getting massive anxiety to the point that I regretted actually adopting him and it killed me to think that. I wasn't getting any sleep from him making noise at night, I felt bad keeping him alone in my room. I found he was so much work that I couldn't handle it.
Then, five days after I adopted him, it was the worst night I could've spent with him. He was rattling his playpen the entire night. I decided I would bring him back to the SPCA. That morning, I opened up his playpen so he could stop making noise. I was laying crying in my bed wondering why I brought an animal into my life that I could not handle. All of a sudden Chester jumps on my bed and hops to my face and just stayed there licking my face. As if he knew I was sad. I knew it wasn't the right thing to bring him back.
That day I brain stormed ideas with my mom. We decided to move his living area downstairs and make him free roam my room when I'm away.
A few days went by and I slowly got used to the routine of making salads, cleaning litters, and the basic rabbit care. He pretty much became a free roam bunny of my downstairs and bedroom.
Here we are many months later, taking care of him has become part of my life, I no longer see it as a chore and he became a big part of my life. I'm so happy I decided to never give up on him.
I'm not one to give up on any animal. I just get easily overwhelmed.
I wrote this to help anyone who may have just got a bunny and may be getting overwhelmed. Don't give up on your animal just yet, I promise it'll get easier and become an every day routine.
