  • I hit 20K followers today. I never thought it would be under these circumstances. Thank God. Thank you! Welcome!

As black women, please remember we are three dimensional human beings. Our lives are heavily affected by race but it’s not all we talk and think about. Please remember to not only respect us when we discuss racial issues, but also respect us when we choose not to.
For some lighter stuff, here’s some facts about me:

my celebrity crushes include (but are not limited to): Benedict Cumberbatch (I SAID WHAT I SAID) Ovie, Brandon Quin, Michael B Jordan, Chris Evans, Kit Harrington and lately chile...John Boyega 🥰

I love musicals, my favourites are Hamilton, seven brides for seven brothers and Sound of Music 😆

I love movies and I’m an aspiring actress as well as an influencer!💪🏾 I was actually filming something shortly before COVID 😭😩 Say hey and your name in the comments so we can get acquainted!

  • I am an adopted kingdom heir AND A PROUD BLACK WOMAN. A black woman who has dealt with covert racism of being asked about Beyonce in the office or called angry when I have the courage to speak up for myself. Let's also talk about the overt racism that occurred when I "took too long" at a green light and called ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
N😡😡R.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To love God is to love your neighbor. To have a willing and open heart that seeks to understand the REAL plight of someone who looks differently than you To actively and humbly listen. To be an image bearer means having the courage to expose evil, weep with those who weep, fight against injustice.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"If someone says, "I love God," and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen."-1 John 4:20

  • We can’t be silent today Kahmunity. There is too much at stake. Your discomfort needs to stop coming before human life. You may be here for the “nudes” but the reality is our mission is firmly rooted in our desire to create change in an industry and world rife with racism. If you aren’t rocked to your core by the events of the last week, regardless of where you fall on our shade chart, you must not be paying attention. We will always fight for black lives here so we stand with all those fighting for equal representation. We stand with all those demanding justice. We stand with all those fighting against police brutality. We ask that you continue to speak up and demand change not just today or next week but everyday until we all can reap equal benefits of the society we live in. Please see the link in our bio for our founder’s full statement.

  • It's officially HOT outside! Aka time for more #shorts ! This roomy pair from @target is super comfortable and made of a #linen and #rayon mix that'll keep you feeling cool in the heat☀️ Since they have a relaxed #fit I recommend going down a size. Wearing with a simple white tank and a gorgeous @jillmichaeljewelry layered necklace from @stitchfix . I finished the #look with #yellow sandals with an #espadrille block heel for a pop of color!

  • I’ve been struggling to find the right words to say in this awful moment. It feels wrong to make my usual posts here as if everything is normal, because not much is. .
I’ve been trying to figure out what I can actually do to help make change using this platform, rather than just posting something, moving on, and not having any sort of real impact. .
One small way that we can all contribute to a slightly more equal world is simply by incorporating diversity into our timelines and our Instagram feeds. If we seek out diversity and incorporate it into our daily lives on social media, the almighty Facebook/Instagram algorithm is more likely to suggest similar posts in the future, and black voices will have better chances of being heard and spread. It’s a small step, but everything helps when you’re supporting an enormous, systemic change. .
So, I’ve compiled a list of black art and design-related hashtags below that I think you’ll like (based on the fact that you follow me and you’re probably interested in these topics), and I highly recommend you spend some time exploring.
.
Check them out and follow the creatives and hashtags that speak to you! And if you have more, add them in the comments!
I know what I’ll be doing tonight: falling down a very fun rabbit hole of black artists, creators and designers and getting some great inspiration and ideas 😁🎨

  • Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart. Kahlil Gibran

There was a point in time where I thought that I only felt pretty when i had my hair done with weave. There was a point where I wanted to give up the natural life & perm my hair. I needed to remember why I went natural in the first place, I needed to fall back in love with my natural hair. Initially, I wanted to challenge myself to a year without weave, but this thick head of hair made me challenge myself to 6 months without weave. Today I've Successfully completed my challenge & I am proud of myself for doing so. Lord knows I was tempted but I made it. I wonder if I could survive the rest of the year. Whats the longest you've gone without wigs, weaves, laces, or extensions?

  • Black lives matter.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I know I'm not alone in struggling with what's going on in our country. With what happened to George Floyd & countless other black people. And I know I've been standing on the sidelines for too long.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I'm also struggling with what I can do to help. With what a white, 52 year old wardrobe stylist can do to help the black community besides donating. But then I heard from a few different voices this morning:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From my friend @johannarossiart: Having a voice is a privilege & should not be wasted.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From @mmlafleur: Pick a lane⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From I'm not sure where: If you're not sure what should be done, amplify the voices that do.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So, as you know, my lane is style & fashion. So I'll be doing my best to amplify black voices within the blogger, influencer & fashion/style communities; highlight black owned businesses within the industry & shed light on any opportunities/obstacles I see in the fashion industry.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But please also know that I am all ears. If you have a suggestion for how I can help support the black community, I'd love to hear it.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • My dad always shared the hard truths with me growing up about being black in America. He’s had a firsthand glimpse into the ugly reality that still plagues us today, centuries later. The other night he listened to me scream, cry, and vent on FaceTime. I told him I was angry and defeated and emotionally spent, and I wondered how he could keep his composure. His response was “I know, baby girl. How do you think I’ve felt the last 65 years? The system was not made for us.” My heart breaks constantly over and over again every time I turn on the news. Every time I see an ignorant comment on the Internet. Every time my dad tells me a story from his past.
Silence is betrayal. Stop killing us. When will our lives matter? When will we stop being gaslighted or ignored when we scream for our lives to matter?
Pausing on the fashion posts to reflect. You can check my stories this week for ways to get involved, helpful tips & information, and general thoughts. #BlackLivesMatter #BlackAndProud

  • Many African nations use the red, gold and green color scheme for their national flags.

Ethiopia, Ghana, Cameroon, Republic of the Congo, Benin, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Senegal.

Who else is excited to travel after this lockdown 🙋🏿‍♀️🙋🏾‍♂️which of the above African countries you interested in visiting?
Rastafarians also adopted the colors red, yellow, and green as the color of the rastafarian movement. The red stands for the blood of black martyrs that were shed around the world during their struggle for liberation, equal rights, and justice. Yellow represents the wealth of the homeland, Africa, particularly the gold.

  • I love this sweater from @jluxlabel but even more I appreciated their recent statement on race equality. I always rave about their styles so (even though it looks like we're still not going anywhere) it might be a good idea to line your closet with a few of their pieces.

In addition, here are a few fashion brands I'm happy to be supporting:

  • Unwinding with music is one of my favourite ways to keeping my anxiety at bay. Music centers me. I’m loving my new wireless @jblaudio_uk tune 220 headphones. The sound quality is amazing. It has 19 hours of playback, it comes in different colours, contains a really great built in microphone, charges really quick and it’s also on sale. Check the link in my bio to get yours. (Affiliate)

  • It’s Mental Health Awareness week & the theme has been Kindness. ❤️ .

Kindness is something that has become rare these days especially in this social media era. .

First and foremost, be kind to yourself; we don’t do this enough.
Secondly, be kind to others because you don’t know what someone is going through and your mean words can literally be the last straw. .

The great Maya Angelou said ‘I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, buy people will never forget how you made them feel.’ .

Let’s make people feel better after an encounter with us; whether online or offline. ❤️
