I’ve been nominated by @n1ckbines to do 25 push-ups for 25 days challenge to hopefully raise awareness for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety and depression that drive people to commit suicide.

  • Whats up guys ?! Im so happpppyy.
I was able to hit 225 on squats today for the first time since corona started!!!
I also PR on deadlift by lifting 175x6. 
By the end of the month I’ll probably be squatting 245 again and I might be able to lift 185!

Gyms are starting to open back up here in Colorado and I was TOTALLY like a kid in a candy store today! 😂⁣

Started this morning training legs at @reunionsnapfitness with @lizbetgloya92 ⁣
Then trained back and arms at @armbrustprogym with @jamins1985 @roy_ulrich and @bobbiu84 ⁣
The ONE thing I have missed the most is a cable machine.... there’s just something I love about doing Cable Rows and Lat Pulldowns 🤩⁣

And I got to see @globetrotting_guppy 🤩🤩

  • With a lot of important post being spread around social media it has made me hesitant to post workouts. But I have learned that black health is also important in the growth of our community for the future. 
The system we live in has oppressed black for longer then I know and that needs to be changed, but we can work on our health, knowledge, and spirituality mind to start the process of change within our community. 
With all that being said I will try to continue to post and motivate women and men to become a healthier version of themselves and hopefully start a movement for black health and black excellence!!!

Aufbau? Well, die Tendenz der vergangenen drei Wochen geht eher nach unten lol🌝. Seit Start des Aufbaus und heutigem Gewicht habe ich 2kg abgenommen - läuft supi🙂. Aber well, ich gucke mir das Gewicht morgen nochmal an, aber wahrscheinlich steigere ich ab Montag dann doch nochmal meine Kalorien🌚.

Und sonst so? Eigentlich sollte ich jetzt gerade lernen📚, weil ich in zwei Stunden arbeiten muss, aber bei dem Wetter draußen ist’s im Bett doch wesentlich gemütlicher als am Schreibtisch🌧. Was steht bei euch heute so an?🐥

  • STRAWBERRY CHIA COULIS OATS 🍓
•Cook some chia seeds in boiling water, once they have swollen up lower the heat
•Add 40g of oats (per person) and some almond milk, and stir regularly
•In another pan heat up some frozen strawberries with water and 1tbsp of chia seeds
•After 15min of cooking the oatmeal and making the coulis, serve the oats into a bowl
•Add some coconut yogurt and then your coulis on top
Voila! ✨

  • Muscle gain calorie math for the beginner, intermediate and advanced weight lifter 🏋️‍♀️ 💪

So in previous posts we learnt that a large calorie surplus is unncecessary and may even take you longer to achieve a lean physique at a given muscle mass due to the overshoot in body fat and high likelihood of losing muscle during a fat loss phase.

Today we’re going to learn about the amount of calories you should be aiming for to minimise fat gain whilst gaining muscle at your maximal rate.

So unfortunately there is limited evidence in this area as it’s hard to control, however a consensus of expert opinion deems that a pound of muscle mass requires between 2400-2700kcal to gain, although this isn’t a 100 % efficient process due to calorie portioning, so its more likely 3500kcals are required per pound.

Yes, you’ll inevitably gain a little fat whilst gaining muscle, unless you’re a beginner or training after a layoff.

The amount of calories you need will depend on if you’re a beginnger, intermediate or advanced weightlifter, as you can expect to gain 1.5lb, 1lb and 0.5 lb per month respective of your training age if you’re a male, with women expecting to gain just over half of that (sorry!). Lets say the beginner gains 1.5lb per month, this requires about 5250kcal surplus per month, which when divided by 30, gives just 175kcal per day! Which is easily within most ‘trackers’ leigh-weigh’ whether they care to admit or not.

By the time this calculation is applied for an advanced athlete, you’ll see that the surplus per day is very miniscule, almost negligible.

So my advice is certainly not to believe you need a large calorie surplus to gain muscle, nor should you dirty bulk!, as Garthe (2011) showed, participants following a 500kcal surplus or eating close to maintenance gained a non-significantly different amount of muscle, but the 500kcal surplus group gained close to 1kg of fat more! -What is difficult but important is to find your TRUE maintenance, but I’ll save that for another post! 😋
