Another day, another pincha! Day 6 of #ImproveYourPincha is another tough one. Hollowback. If this is new to you, definitely use the wall. Take your time & really explore the lower back & shoulders. Think about sitting. I literally think to myself, sit back, sit down. While also really opening the chest & shoulders. .
Shape: #hollowback . #pinchahollowback #hollowbackforearmstand 
Drill: all kinds of mountain climbers in both forearmstand & full plank. Slow, fast, straight or twisting....you pick. Work on building up to a minute or even 2!

Advanced: pike press. This press is so much tougher than either  puppy or straddle. Requires more strength & more flexibility! But if you aren't there quite yet, try playing with a half pike. (Last slide) Pull one thigh/knee to belly/chest while you press the other leg up straight. In the beginning too, feel free to start on a higher surface. And remember, always always always work the negative (reversal). .

Keep at it everybody! With all these drills & work in pincha, your practice is no doubt getting stronger & more stable. You're doing SO great! .

  • Home practice in my office! Here’s a fun handstand prep that is super effective in specifically building the upper body strength for both arm balances and handstands!

You can do this at the wall as well, with feet on the wall. Measure where your hands should go first by sitting with back to wall and legs out, and placing hands where your feet are. Or you can put your feet up in a couch, bed, or any home surface available, maybe a dog or child table? Lol 😂
.

Press through the hands and work on hips coming over the shoulders, while lifting from the navel, squeezing inner thighs together and inviting the legs to her lighter and lift up, maybe even come to tip toes or lift a leg! Carve out time to move and practice, even if it’s ten minutes for such a positive impact on your day. Take care of yourselves during this time especially my BIPOC friends 💜 sending you virtual abrazos 🌟

  • My body is my temple.

In this picture some of my cellulitis is underlined with beautiful light rays. I see it and I don’t feel mad about it because it’s my temple. How could I be mad about my body if it travels through life with me so effortlessly. Every. Single. Day. .

I can run, jump, breath, sleep, hike, swim, make love, laugh, wake up in this body each day. Why should I punish my body for some holes in it? I love my body, even for the things that society sees as „imperfect“. You should give your body some love as well💛 .

  • Another day, another pincha! Day 6 of #ImproveYourPincha is another tough one. Hollowback. If this is new to you, definitely use the wall. Take your time & really explore the lower back & shoulders. Think about sitting. I literally think to myself, sit back, sit down. While also really opening the chest & shoulders. .
    Shape: #hollowback .
    Drill: all kinds of mountain climbers in both forearmstand & full plank. Slow, fast, straight or twisting....you pick. Work on building up to a minute or even 2!

    Advanced: pike press. This press is so much tougher than either puppy or straddle. Requires more strength & more flexibility! But if you aren't there quite yet, try playing with a half pike. Drill: Moving from Down Dog to Dolphin.

Advanced: Using helicopter legs (someday...) to move from side to side with either Lady or Eagle legs.

Boy do those helicopter legs sure look cool. Someday I'll be able to do those, but not today. I gave it a go without success. I tried puppy press which I managed to get both feet off the ground with, but I was having such issues with the balance part once I was up that I decided to revert back to L-shape legs facing the wall. It helped stabilize me enough to try out Lady legs. I really love that shape, and was so happy I could get something on my stronger side that some what resembled our hosts beautifully executed version of the shape.

  • #PuppyPose is a great shoulder opening pose, but it's difficult to access to the shoulder when your chest is not on the mat 😕 And this is so hard if you have tight shoulder. But you can still practice this pose using a block 💁

🔹Simply place a block (or two) under the chest. You can melt your heart down when there's something to press! Arch your whole spine, and make your chest the heaviest point ⬇
⠀
🔹Aligh your knees under your hips, or BEHIND. Walk your knees back as much as you need to descend your chest on a block.
⠀
🔹 Straighten your arms! Bent elbows cause terrible pain in deltoid (top of shoulder)😖 .
🔹 Ideally your arms are parallel, but you can widen your hands if you have tight shoulder ☝
⠀
🔸Most importantly, relax and hold about 5-10 long breath 😌 Close your eyes, and soften your eyebrows. You'll get more ease in the pose 👌

This is one of my favourite warm up for backbend. You literally create so much space in shoulder and heart areas ♥ Enjoy your practice!

Looks familiar!? #Downdog looks very, but it's not easy pose.
The reason of rounded spine (above pic) is the tight hamstrings most of the cases.
Our spine and hamstrings are so linked that you round your back by straightening your legs unless you have enough flexibility 🙁 .
But this can be fixed by BENDING YOUR KNEES, and USING BLOCKS under your hands 👌
⠀
🔹Place two blocks shoulder width against the wall. And take downdog with your heels of palms on the edge of blocks so that your hands stay steady.
⠀
🔹 Place your feet about mat width, lift your heels and bend your knees as much as you need WITHOUT DROPPING YOUR HIPS☝
⠀
🔹Straighten your arms and extend your spine max. Lengthen the side body and stretch your entire upper body.
⠀
🔸 Once you gain more flexibility in your hamstrings, you can start to release your heels down. .

🔰 But focus on the EXTENSION OF THE SPINE rather than straightening your legs!

  • I was finally able to take the paper off the windows! .

When I signed the lease in March, I never imagined that it would be June by the time I opened the studio. .
.
There have been highs and a lot of lows, but I’ve had some great support and I am so grateful that I was able to make it through the quarantine when so many other businesses did not. .
.
Sanctuary will officially start regular business hours for the retail store next week. .
.
