  • May 28th 2020: although this was supposed to happen on Easter, the wait was worth it. Welcome to the Catholic Church, @benstephens00 ❤
What a crazy year it has been but still a very blessed one. I am honored to be your sponsor. Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your light. Thanks be to God.

  • Happy Pentecost Sunday and happy birthday to our one Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church! I just finished a novena to the Holy Spirit in honor of Pentecost, and it was so beautifully powerful. I took this photo in the St. Louis Cathedral a couple years ago, and the cathedral is filled with some of the most beautiful mosaics I've ever seen. If you're in the St. Louis area, I highly recommend visiting the cathedral for mass or private prayer and reflection. May we all feel the power of the Holy Spirit, and live our lives through the peace of Christ. #catholic #Catholicism #catholiclife #catholicwoman #faithjourney #rcia #faith

  • Yesterday I had the honor of being my cousins sponsor into the Catholic Church. There was something special about these Sacred Sacraments being celebrated at the Pentecost Vigil Mass.
#
Despite having to wear masks that covered our smiles for the majority of Mass, the joy was still visible and palpable. You can’t mask the Holy Spirit.
#
It was a beautiful and joyful evening. We even celebrated with dinner at a restaurant!
#
She received a Holy Water bottle from us that I wrote on with a sharpie her name, the date of her initiation, and the Parishes name. It’s a tradition I’ve been doing the last few years for our godchildren. They will always have the exact water they were Baptized with to be able to bless themselves on the anniversary of their Baptism into the Church.
#
Come, Holy Spirit on this feast of Pentecost and renew the face of the Earth and Your people.

  • Happy Pentecost! My missal made some insightful connections I thought I’d share. The Holy Spirit is a ....
1. Unifying force: Babel confused speech, Pentecost enabled all to understand
2. Principal of love: in Exodus, the LORD came down in fire, same as here
3. Life-giving: breath of God from Gen 1:1 and the text regarding the dry bones in Ezekiel (and clearly here It gives life to the Church, and to each one of us,
4. Strong driving wind: inspiring people to preach the Gospel
.

  • Join us this morning for the 10:30am Solemn Mass on Pentecost Sunday live via our website and YouTube Channel: https://youtu.be/d0ivOlnQ6GI

Mass will be celebrated by the Most Rev. Archbishop Anthony Fisher OP, Archbishop of Sydney.
Within today's Mass, the first group of our RCIA Catechumens will receive the Sacraments of Initiation with one also being received into the Church. This follows the ancient tradition of those catechumens not baptised at the Easter Vigil but ready for baptism were baptised at Pentecost, the last day of the Easter season. Of course due to pandemic, our catechumens weren't able to join us for the Easter Vigil, but we are blessed to receive them into the Catholic Faith this morning!

The Mass will once again be interpreted in Auslan by the Interpreters from the Ephpheta Centre for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people

Download the Mass booklet by copying this link: https://www.stmaryscathedral.org.au/sysweb/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Pentecost-Mass-2020.pdf

  • Final prepartions are underway for our RCIA Catechumens as they will receive the Sacraments of Initiation on Pentecost Sunday and Trinity Sunday.
Fr Lewi led our Catechumens through a final rehearsal of the Mass and to end the night, the Catechumens prayed with our Lord in Adoration as a reminder that He will always be with them on their life journey.

Please continue to pray for them in these next few days and tune in at 10:30am on Sunday (and next Sunday) to welcome them into the Catholic Faith.

  • Who is up for a Bible study on the Eucharist?? If you’re a Protestant, I really challenge you to listen to the entire video and let it seep in before dismissing Jesus’ Words.  If you love Jesus, why wouldn’t you want to receive Him in the most intimate way possible??
.
This video takes you through John 6, Early Church Fathers, the Last Supper, and a Eucharistic Miracle to explain the True Presence of Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Eucharist. .

• 🔸No utilizar talco, perfumes o desodorantes. #resistenciachaco #rcia #resistenciachacoargentina #vagina #higienepersonal #mujer #mujeres #intimidad #sexualidad #lgtbi #lesbian #gay #cuarentena #mequedo #argentina #soltera #soltero #parejas @resistenciachaco

  • Waiting can be so agonizing. It’s disheartening at times. It’s frustrating.

It’s exactly the way I felt while I was pregnant. I think many women can attest to this, after learning you’re pregnant and you get over the initial shock of it all, the “I’m ready,” kicks in. You want to shop, decorate the nursery, prep for labor, and take the classes. You want birth to happen, you want to meet your baby.

Same goes for being a candidate or catechumen in the Catholic Church. The seed has been sown, you spend so much time praying and learning, you decorate your prayer corner, you tell your friends and family. You want it to happen, you want to receive Jesus sacramentally.

But you aren’t ready. It’s not time yet. The journey has just started.

When you’re coming from Evangelical Protestantism like me, it can be difficult to understand that just approaching a prayer worker in tears isn’t going to cut it this time.
Thinking I know so much and I am already so sincere; but all of that isn’t going to cut it here.

Just because a woman has her nursery set up, and feels ready, and has told all her friends and family, and read many books, and she feels ready...doesn’t mean she IS ready, and more importantly it doesn’t mean that her baby is ready.

The woman’s gestational period is 40 weeks and even as little as a 5 week difference can have great consequences.

So we wait...and it’s hard, I’ll admit it. I still have at LEAST eleven months; and with all this COVID-19 it could be longer...even with our parishes beginning to open, as the mother of a 10 month old, I may have to spend more time away from the traditional Mass or RCIA classes. (Lord, I pray for wisdom and guidance.) Haha, I guess you could say my relationship with Jesus has become a traditional courtship in the truest of forms. I’ll be met at the altar by My Beloved with my little daughter in my arms, sooner rather than later and I’ll likely weep like a baby. Until the day comes, I’ll be waiting and learning as much as I can about You and what it means to be Your Bride.

So we wait.

  • Today in my neck of the woods we celebrate The Ascension of Our Lord which means one week until Pentecost!! I originally created this design for my Parish's RCIA in mind. But since have loved it too much to now share with everyone!

Have you been praying the Holy Spirit Novena? It's a powerful one!!
.
.
.
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And you will renew the face ofthe earth.
Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is right and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

  • If you open your heart to God—if you let Christ enter fully into your life—you will not be diminished or deprived of your freedom.
You will find yourself in Him. You will come to know what it means to be TRULY free. •
“You are great, O Lord, and greatly to be praised: Great is your power and your wisdom is without measure. And man, so small a part of your creation, wants to praise you: this man, though clothed with mortality and bearing the evidence of sin and the proof that you withstand the proud. Despite everything, man, though but a small part of your creation, wants to praise you. You yourself encourage him to delight in your praise, for you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”—St. Augustine .

  • “It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; He is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; He is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is He who provoked you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is He who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is He who reads in your heart your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle.
― Pope John Paul II

We are praying for all those preparing to enter the Catholic Church this Easter (and for all those prayerfully discerning entering the Catholic Church)!

Either one of these two beautiful crosses would be the perfect gift for anyone in RCIA (of course, the link is in the bio).

  • Jesus Christ knows how hard fighting the good fight can be, how despair and fear can howl around you, how sometimes everything looks so very dark, how you can feel so unloved and abandoned, how much strength and grace is needed to hang on.
.
.
The Cross reminds us of that fact. Jesus knows exactly how we feel, whether we are feeling dark or light, hopeless or hope-filled ... He still loves us so very much! And He gives us His grace and mercy to strengthen us to follow Him.
.
.
"In difficult moments, I will fix my gaze upon the silent Heart of Jesus stretched on the Cross, and from the exploding flames of His merciful Heart, will flow down upon me power and strength to keep fighting.” (St. Faustina)

  • Last week I shared a lot about my home cleaning schedule (See highlight “Oh So Domestic 🏠.) I’ve never done that before, mostly because I feel like a mess a lot of the time (even though I’m constantly cleaning). 🧹
I think that’s the lot of a mom, and it can be overwhelming, to say the least. To often watch your work get immediately disrupted/undone...it’s exhausting. 😴
But...I’ve learned over the years how to manage the exhaustion, and 3 books particularly helped me:
1. (Top) For time management, this book taught me that certain duties HAVE to get done. The quicker we quit fighting that reality and dedicate ourselves to our vocation, the easier and more fruitful it becomes.
2. (Middle) For defining intentionality in the home life, this book taught me to pinpoint our family purpose and CREATE an environment that’s meaningful to our family
3. (Bottom) For better self-awareness, this book taught me that I have natural preferences and ways of doing things, and that my temperament shapes my thoughts, ideas, and impressions—which can lead to both virtue, AND vice, depending on how I let it.
Holly Pierlot says in her book, “Jesus is perfectly willing to bless [our] efforts, but He first has to have efforts to bless.” That quote hit me hard when I was deep in overwhelm and anxiety over my role as wife and mom, just three years ago.
I was waiting on God to rescue me (emphasis on “WAITING”), complaining my way through life on the regular.
But God didn’t create us for overwhelm and worry, and He doesn’t want us to be overburdened by our vocation. He created us to be stewards of our time, work, and temperament, and when we give our effort to these things in worship of Him, He blesses us.
If you’re struggling, know that I’ve been there. I encourage you to pick up one or more of these books.
They changed my life, no joke.
To this day, I turn back to them often.
Though I know they’re not a replacement for those of you who may need medical help for anxiety/depression (please, please seek the proper medical help if this applies to you), I wanted to share for those of you who need a little more structure and encouragement. There is hope...I promise!

  • 🌼Month of Mary🌼

During the month of May we’ll be highlighting our Marian dolls (which are all on sale this month!) and exploring how through play based learning we can plant a seed of faith in our children that will truly last a lifetime. Today we look at Our Lady of Kibeho! 🌼

When I was a child I had a major stumbling block when it came to the saints. Very often, I found their stories to be, well, scary. It seemed like in order to be a saint, lots of bad things had to happen to you. So in my child’s brain I thought, “why would anyone want to become a saint if it meant signing up for a life of suffering?!”. 🌼

Then one day I was finally able to articulate my fears to my mother. “I love God! I want to do good things like help people and spread his love- but I don’t want God to make me sick, poor, hated or a martyr!” 🌼

Luckily, my mother was ready with an answer that has stayed with me my entire life. “The rain falls on the just and the unjust,” she said, “you can either suffer with Christ, or alone.” While I didn’t exactly want to hear that either, it was true. No one is spared from suffering in this life, but what sets the saints apart is their response to that inevitable suffering. 🌼

  • With Lent just around the corner, many of our sisters are involved in RCIA programs throughout the country. For some sisters, this has a personal connection. Sr. Christina Skelley, ASCJ grew up in a suburb of Chicago practicing no particular faith. However, she began to explore different religions while majoring in Humanities at Washington University in St. Louis. This led her to visit different Christian churches, and once she began attending Catholic Mass, the pieces started to fall into place. “I felt drawn by Christ’s Real Presence in the Eucharist and in the community,” she says.
Sr. Christina went on to join the university's RCIA program, receiving the Sacraments a year later. #apostlefire #rcia #catholicconvert #religiouslife @washucsc
