  • Being a NASA Solar System Ambassador means that we get to convey information about NASA missions and discoveries to the públic. One thing that I found absolutely cool, was that one SSA had been taking data from Mars missions and creating weather reports of Mars with it. People loved it. And that got me thinking 🤔 What can I do with access to all this awesome data? So I present to you, Planets in Space. This will be a comic that explores the awesome facts we learn about our solar system and our Universe from NASA in a fun way! I already have some hilarious ideas lined up and cannot wait to begin sharing them 😁 (P.S. Is it bad if I crack up stupendously hard at my own damn jokes when I write them? 😂) (P.P.S. I can’t draw past basics. So hopefully I’ll make a progression into shading and blending and digital and all that fun stuff down the line 😜) Hope you all find it fun! I love getting to be creative 🤩

  • Last press conference today for astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken before they begin final preparations for next Wednesday's launch. They're feeling pretty good and excited to get this mission underway.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yesterday, the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and Falcon 9 rocket were rolled out and put into place on Launch Pad 39A. Today a static fire of the rocket engines was performed and tomorrow will be a dry run for the entire mission team. We're just days away from a (hopefully) awe-inspiring day of celebration and I can't wait! Fingers crossed all systems remain a "GO" for launch.

  • As we prepare for SpaceX’s first crewed test flight for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, and the first time we’ve launched American astronauts to the International Space Station from American soil since the end of the space shuttle era in 2011, we are inviting the public to come along for the ride — virtually.

Join me live on Wednesday, May 27, 4:33 p.m. EDT, NASA’s SpaceX Demo-2 mission will launch from Launch Complex 39A at agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket will launch Crew Dragon, with NASA astronauts Robert Behnken and Douglas Hurley aboard the spacecraft. It is the final test flight of the system before SpaceX is certified to carry out operational crew flights to and from the International Space Station for NASA.

Are you as excited as me?

  • Do you see #TheStar 🌟 and #Crescent 🌙here? 🌟🌙 Looks like representation of our solar system with #heliosphere
#Heliopause #Heliosheath

Since that symbol (name) is traditionally associated with that we know as Muslim ☪ I'm not saying other religions are wrong since religion helps point people toward a moral compass of being...
I like to consider myself a part of ALL religions I'm #Yoruba #NOL
#Baha'i, #Buddhist #Christian #Confucianism, #Hinduism, #Islam, #Moslem #Muslim #Jainism, #Judaism, #Shinto, #Sikhism, #Rastafarianism #Taoism #Zoroastrianism due to that.

I do wonder why religions and spirituality or lack thereof is so divisive...there seems to be good in ALL yet where people take it can be less so.. I'm glad the pre existing America Empire has and always had religious freedoms even prior to the "colony ports" and "United States" construct.
My point is unity means "plurality" and harmonious universal religious tolerance. A benign attitude to ALL as 🔑 to our highest self actualization, further universal knowledge, and access to the cosmos. #interstellarspace #solarsystems #planets #galaxies

Details from post 📫 below⤵
Voyager probes launched in 1977, were designed to last 5 years and study the planets in our solar system. They had different trajectories and eventually, Voyager 1 (despite launching 16 days after Voyager 2) made it to Interstellar Space first in 2012. But Voyager 2 finally reached that milestone (mile marker?!?) around November of last year!!!!! Instruments onboard the probe measured a change in #plasma surrounding it (or "solar wind") coming from our sun. This graphic shows the position of the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 probes relative to the #heliosphere, a protective bubble created by our Sun's solar wind that extends well past the orbit of Pluto. Voyager 2 now is slightly more than 11 billion miles (18 billion kilometers) from Earth. Get this...it takes 16.5 hrs for the data to reach Earth and that's traveling at the speed of light! Once the probes are out of power, they will continue to roam for potentially billions of years. .

  • COSMIC MONDAY!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here we see the most detailed view yet of the Swan Nebula taken by the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA) Telescope. SOFIA is NASA's flying observatory inside of a Boeing 747SP aircraft.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The Swan Nebula (from the shape resembling a swan's neck) is one of the most massive star-forming areas in our Milky Way Galaxy. The nebula is around 5,000 light-years away and has more than 100 of the galaxy's most massive stars in its center, but they're hard to see because of the dense dust and gas surrounding them. SOFIA's "FORCAST" infrared camera was able to peer through the almost too bright central region that plagued other space telescope instruments.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The observation revealed 9 protostars, which are regions of collapsing clouds that form new stars. NASA scientists also found out that the nebula has sections that are different ages instead of it being created all at the same time. The center is the oldest, the northern area is next and the southern area is the youngest.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The stars within the nebula are so large and release so much energy, that entire galaxies can be effected. It's rare to have stars that massive, so scientists haven't had much opportunity to study them until now.

  • ARE. YOU. READY?

Since 2011, the Russian Soyuz capsules have been the only transportation to and from the space station.

On May 27, 2020, astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley will launch atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, from the same Kennedy Space Center launchpad used by shuttle Atlantis in July 2011.
Together, NASA and SpaceX will make this historic event one we will never forget!
This is the final flight test for SpaceX, before certifying their ability to carry out future space missions.
In support of the space program, and my participation in the NASA Social #LaunchAmerica event, I will share excitement from all over the world and exclusive content with you!! I. AM. READY!

  • In preparation for their first steps on the Moon, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin trained in the Nevada desert. One day while they were training, they came across an old Native American. He asked them what they were doing. They replied that they were preparing for landing on the Moon. The old man was silent for a few moments, then asked if they would do him a favor. What do you want, they asked. Well, said the old man, the people of my tribe believe that spirits live on the Moon. I was hoping you could pass on a message to them. What’s the message? They asked. The man uttered something in his native language, and asked the astronauts to repeat it again and again until they got it right. What does it mean? they asked. Oh I cannot tell you, it’s a secret that only our tribe and the Moon spirits are allowed to know. Then the old man left. When the astronauts returned to their base, they searched and searched until they found someone who could speak the native language, and asked him to translate the message. When they repeated what they had memorized, the translator started to laugh uproariously. When he calmed down, the astronauts asked him what it meant. The man explained that the sentence they had memorized so carefully said, “Don’t believe a single word these people are telling you. They have come to steal your lands” #nature #sky #moon #arizona #nevada #space #science #luna #fullmoon #spirit #nasa #nightsky #cosmos #astronomy #astrophotography #nightshot #physics #exoplanet #nightscape #skywatcher #onesmallstep #starrynight #skyphotography #astronaut #stargazing #solarsystem #outerspace #apollo #solarsystemambassador

  • Huzzah! NASA has resumed limited work on the SLS Core stage "Green Run" this week!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Green Run means the first full testing of the entire core stage flight hardware.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The core is part of the larger Space Launch System spacecraft. It will take some time to get the testing systems up and running again, but this is a critical step toward getting astronauts back to the moon by 2024.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Returning personnel were all trained in extra safety precautions, PPE requirements, and self-monitoring to protect everyone.

  • Did you know there are “Lucky Peanuts” at JPL? It all started in 1964 and it seems that they need to be present for good things to happen!! I love it! Whatever helps the stress of a mission launch or landing, go for it. Plus peanuts are a good source of protein for brain power for the mission controllers!

  • COSMIC MONDAY!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
May is a great month to view one of the brightest points of light in the night sky, our sister planet, Venus. Looking toward the west for a few hours after sunset until June, Venus is approximately 35 million miles from Earth right now and the 3rd brightest object after the sun and moon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The next closest visible object to us is the star Sirius at 9 light-years away. And if you see a reddish point of light, that's Betelgeuse in the constellation Orion, clocking in at around 500 light-years from Earth!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you look south, in the 3rd image, you'll notice more of our solar system is visible. Our moon at 240,000 miles away, then out for your viewing pleasure are Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. And if you're in an extremely dark area, you'll be able to see our Milky Way. I've always thought it was amazing that we can see our own galaxy from our planet. And we have our own black hole too, it's 27,000 light-years from us at the center of the galaxy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lastly, hope everyone in the US had a happy Mother's Day yesterday no matter how you identify as a mother figure. Thank you for all you do! ❤️

  • Researchers have discovered the first multicellular Earth creatures that do not require oxygen to live. It's a cnidarian, belonging to the same phylum as corals, jellyfish and anemones. This has huge implications on the search for extra-terrestrial life, as prior to this discovery, 100% of all known complex life forms required oxygen. Who knows what we may find out there?
