Hey everyone! I have just over 140 pages left in The Hunger Games and I really hope I can finish it today. I’m LOVING my reread and am kicking myself for not rereading it sooner. Cannot wait to finish so I can start Catching Fire😍😍

Happy #IndieBookTuesday! It’s once again my favorite day of the week and this time I’m promoting an upcoming book from one of my favorite people, @emmahammauthor (this is written under a pen name!). ⁣
⁣
Her pen name did cause a bit of confusion, because my mom wanted to know why I was preordering such a sexy book cover (it’s not the norm for me, at all, but I have to read it for Emma!). When I said it was Emma’s pen name, she said that made a LOT more sense! ⁣Mom then got to beta read the book and said it’s great!
⁣
This book is not available yet, but will be released Saturday, June 6th. Until then you can preorder it!⁣
⁣
𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆: ⁣
⁣
Morgan has no problem killing the king, especially since the alternative is being locked away for all her other murders... But he doesn't make it easy. ⁣
⁣
First off, he's a bearded, sexy wild man who chops firewood shirtless in his backyard. Second? He's created an entire dimension hidden from the human realm, where he controls everything. ⁣
⁣
Literally everything. ⁣
⁣
The longer she's in his realm, the more she realizes he's wiggled his way under her skin with his sexy smirk and stupid beard. What's worse? She might let him end the world if she gets to keep him. ⁣

  • 'So You Want To Talk About Race' by Ijeoma Oluo.
This is the end paragraph of Chapter 5: What Is Intersectionality And Why Do I Need It?
This book is so informative. If you've been looking for ways to learn about race, address your white privileged and bring conversations about race up with friends and family, this is the book to start with. I'm 5 chapters in, I'm underlining constantly, I'm engaging with the tips and actions she shows will help bring your privilege to the forefront of your mind and then enable you to assess and enact change to yourself and to help others.
Addressing your privilege is uncomfortable, and it's vitally important.
This book is incredible. Buy it from an independent, Black owned bookstore. There are lists online, I've put a couple on my story in the UK.

  • Our beloved Prof. Mohiuddin Sir (Microbiology department) is no more. Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun.
⠀
I had the privilege of working with him during the farewell program of our seniors. He was an honest soul. A very kind hearted person.
⠀
May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat.
⠀
At this point I don’t even know how to feel anymore. How many more loved ones will this tiny little virus snatch from us? How much more will it take? How much more time do I have until it’s inside my house? My Covid-19 positive relatives are already suffering so much.
⠀
Sitting in front of the television and tightly holding the remote, dreading the number of cases every day. Dreading the number of deaths. Dreading every phone call. I feel scared and helpless all the time. Scared for my parents. Is this the new normal? Is this how life will be now for us? Will we survive this?
⠀
I just wanted to apologise to everyone. If I’ve ever hurt you, knowingly or unknowingly, I hope you’ll forgive me. Life is so unpredictable. And all we can do now is hope and pray.
⠀
Tell me something good that happened to you recently.

✨WEDNESDAY✨⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
——————⁣⁣—⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
Yesterday, I shared a bunch of book recommendations in my stories and it made me wonder how many books I had on my shelves at home by black authors. Turns out, not nearly enough. And worse, I haven’t read a majority of the ones I own. While it was never a conscious effort to put those stories on the back burner, I *can* make the conscious decision to prioritize and include more of these stories in my reading and feed going forward. For the remainder of the week I will be featuring the books I found on my shelves, and I encourage you to take a look at your shelves too!. ⁣
———————⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
TITLE: THE BLACK FLAMINGO⁣
AUTHOR: Dean Atta⁣
SYNOPSIS: Michael is a mixed-race gay teen growing up in London. All his life, he’s navigated what it means to be Greek-Cypriot and Jamaican - but never quite feeling Greek or Black enough. ⁣
As he gets older, Michaels coming out is only the start of learning who he is and where he fits in. When he discovers the Drag Society, he finally finds where he belongs - and The Black Flamingo is born. ⁣

  • All week I will be highlighting black authors & providing book giveaways to get these books in your hands. One way we can support the black community is with our time & buying power.
SLAY is a YA fiction book that follows the struggles of a black high school student named Kiera, who has developed an online video game named “SLAY” that is built for and about the black community. The game is a HUGE hit and quickly builds a community of users across the globe, who can only enter the game with a special invite. The tensions rise when a gamer in real life is killed because of a conflict within the game, and Kiera doesn’t know who to turn to for help since she has kept hidden to her friends & family that she is the game developer. The game is called “racist” because it caters to the black gamer.
This book grabbed me from the get go because of the way it made me think and the truths it brought to light. It’s an easy, entertaining read with a deeper, more thoughtful message. Much in the way The Hate You Give made me think of what it’s like to be a black teen at a mostly white school, this book made me think of the gamers experience.
I’ve never really thought much about characters in games before, but Kiera developed this game to have a place where she could TRULY be free! Most characters in games don’t look or act or talk like her. So she builds SLAY to be centered around black history and black culture. The characters choices celebrate the styles and colors and identities in black history.
Kiera grows with her choices of what blackness means to her and what she wants to fight for and how she will go about it. Kiera is an incredibly strong character - smart, bold, and not afraid to make her own choices. I love her love for her sister and her desire to protect her family. I also loved Kiera’s pride for her community and culture.
Overall, it was a unique & fun read. The author tackles issues within the black community that I hadn’t even considered, and discusses topics that make this a great book for discussion and the perfect read for your teen. I recommend reading it together so you can discuss the themes.

  • Hey Bookaholics! (🌟Read below to get to the main point! If you have the time then i would be flattered if you read my whole caption 😊) I have seen a lot of photos and read a lot of personal opinions about this topic throughout this week. I have been reluctant on posting any BLM photos or expressed any personal interest in this topic on social media. This is purely due to the feeling of desperation that even if I post something on my personal private account, racist people are not suddenly going to be less racist. I wanted to do something bigger and actually change the way racists look at society in a unequal way. I don’t want to say silent and I am so glad to see that our youth is not damned and is heading towards the right direction. 🌟please fill the comment section with how you feel about this topic. Please be polite and state YOUR TRUTH and if you feel the need to reply to a comment rethink how you would feel if you received it 🌟

  • Review of The Saboteur Of Auschwitz | By Colin Rushton📚 - -
“In 1942, young British soldier Arthur Dodd was taken prisoner by the German Army and transported to Oswiecim in Polish Upper Silesia. The Germans gave it another name, now synonymous with mankind’s darkest hour. They called it Auschwitz.

Forced to do hard labour, starved and savagely beaten, Arthur thought his life would end in Auschwitz. Determined to go down fighting, he sabotaged Nazi industrial work, risked his life to alleviate the suffering of the Jewish prisoners and aided a partisan group planning a mass breakout.

This shocking true story sheds light on the operations at the camp, exposes a hierarchy of prisoner treatment by the SS and presents the largely unknown story of the military POWs held there.”
-
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This story was so interesting to read. Though it taught me the heartbreaking conditions of Auschwitz, it was amazing to see how Arthur dealt with the situations and how he ended up in a better place. It’s warming to see, although many people were robbed from their own lives, that people were able to make it out of there and create a better life for themselves. It is so touching, and guides you through the life that was once reality for so many people. It shows you the bonds that were made, alongside the memories, shining the light on the heart wrenching period of World War Two.
There is also a documentary based on Arthur’s experience, which can be found online. It’s a great accompany to the novel itself.
If you love elements of history, and you find WW2 interesting, this will be a book for you. It’s not long, only around 200 pages of Arthur’s story, but I could not put it down! I purchased it off of Amazon for £3!📚 -

  • My spoiler group on Facebook is HOPPING with theories about the Bailey Brothers. Not just #whatsonthecounter, although that's a big question. But what about the Bailey Haven feud? And what's the story behind the mirror? Will we see more of Cara? Who are the women who are badass enough to tame these unruly brothers? I'm not gonna lie, it's SO fun to see reader theories and speculation.

  • If a book fails to grab your attention, do you DNF it or keep going?
.
I feel super bad DNFing books for several reasons - my precious money that I invested in it, the time, and of course, the environmental factors, and I also don't like not knowing the ending. So I always stick with the book even if I don't like it and often that results in a reading slump🎉🎉🎉
.
But, to avoid the slump, lately, I have been skimming through the book, so I would more or less know the plot and I technically still read it.🎉🎉🎉 So yeah what I'm trying to say is I lie to myself to feel better 😂😂😂😂

.
📕 O Senhor dos Anéis (5/5 🌟)
📕 Jane Eyre (4/5🌟)
📕 A Sombra do Vento (5/5 🌟 + ❤)

  • "It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen."
.
What a way to start the month! I absolutely adored this book 🥰🥰
.
1984 by George Orwell presents a world taken over by a totalitarian government that neutralizes people for so much as an independent thought.
.
Winston is such a compelling protagonist. I loved watching him navigate dystopian London and deal with every twist and turn.
.
Julia's character is so charming 😍😍 Her and Winston's romantic subplot was great! 👌 Her rebellious spirit really helped to reflect Winston's own rebellious desires against the mysterious and all-powerful Big Brother.
.
The world-building was impeccable. The amount of time Orwell must have spent fleshing it out! 😮
.
There's a constant sense of oppressiveness and paranoia that really enhances the general tone and feel of the book.
.
The ending's super intense and everything's pretty hopeless, but despite this the book filled me with appreciation for people's uniqueness and freedom of expression 👍👍
.
So glad I finally got around to reading this one. Wasn't sure what to expect given its reputation but I was pleasantly surprised to discover a genuinely enjoyable book that skillfully explores the human condition.

QUESTION OF THE DAY—
What’s the first book you’re reading in June?
•
ANSWER OF THE DAY—
I’m currently reading Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead. I haven’t been reading much lately, hoping to change that soon.

.
Everyday we hear stories of sexual assault, everyday there is someone to protest, but rape culture is permitted to grow continuously, unreported many a times.
The protagonist of the story is a college girl named Palak who is living her life like any other young woman, wild and carefree, partying, dating, getting high amd what not until one day, a friend she trusted molests her in a party, and the next day she only remembers bits and pieces. This breaks her and she faces the trauma hundreds face every week. Was this simply an act of disgust or was there another motive behind? While enduring this mental trauma, she also has to overcome the pain of losing her mother and enduring her tyrannical father.
.
The book explores how she breaks free of her mental trauma, after being assaulted by someone she trusted. It shows how she deals with her problems in an oppressive society. The book explores themes such as cyber bullying, mental health, patriarchy and other social issues minutely. Along with the protagonist's story, light is also shed on stories of other victims who she meets. Her fights with her struggles are inspiring and awakening. The story is daring and bold, and of course the cause is upright, but somehow it misses uniqueness. The narration could've been done in a better and more engaging way and the transition between scenes could've been smoother.
Needless to say, the book is enlightening.

  • How do you guys manage reading on a busy day?⁣
⁣
Things have gotten busy for me and will remain so for few more days. I haven't moved this bookmark even by 1 page in last few days. ⁣
⁣
I remember when I was a kid, being the silly child that I was, would sometimes get angry with my mom because she wouldn't read daily and finish a book as quickly because she had so many more things to do while I devoured my Enid Blyton one after other. "You're just not interested in reading anymore!" I'd whine.⁣
⁣
Now that I'm busy with college and work, my reading routine has become worse than hers while she continues to read at same pace with her teaching work and cooking and all other things she gets herself into. ⁣
⁣
The joke is on me, I guess. ⁣
⁣
HOW DO YOU DO IT, MOM!⁣

  • How do you guys manage reading on a busy day?⁣

Things have gotten busy for me and will remain so for few more days. I haven't moved this bookmark even by 1 page in last few days.

Now that I'm busy with college and work, my reading routine has become worse than hers while she continues to read at same pace with her teaching work and cooking and all other things she gets herself into. ⁣

The joke is on me, I guess. ⁣

HOW DO YOU DO IT, MOM!⁣

🌼QOTD🌼 what's your best / favorite summer read ?? .
.
.
🌻AOTD🌻 gotta be honest, I don't really have a favorite summer read🤔 there's none that I could think of. I have certain books I love reading during the fall and winter season, but not really summer😅 well.... maybe you have some great recommendations for me .
.
.
🏵... and yes, it's obvious😁 I changed my theme, its really sudden of me, I know... 😅. Totally not planned at all. I wasn't even thinking of changing it any time soon till autumn. But I kinda started disliking my blue theme. I don't feel comfortable posting pictures that I don't really like. Without the attention of creating a new theme I took pictures every now and then when I was outside, I played around with editing and trying out some filters and ended up actually liking them. Yup.... and here we are now. It's going to be a mixed theme again; outdoor and indoor pictures, maybe some artsy stuff too. But hey, of course my account still willl stay bookish☝🏻💯👍🏻😁😉 .

I read Circe about a year ago, and I still remember how good it was. Everything about this book is a poem and no one can change my mind about it. I fell in love with Greek myth ever since I read Percy Jackson and reading Madeline Miller’s works made me want to dig about it deeper. I still haven’t read The Iliad till now and i know i need to, soon.
•
I’ve had the urge to read The Iliad right after I finished The Song of Achilles (gosh i remember i was weeping right after i read the last sentence) and I knew that I had to get it soon. I have it sitting on my shelf for over a year now and haven’t picked that up yet. I’m a bit scared to read Classics (oops. a confession) cause I worry it would be too heavy for me but I really do want to read it. I’m probably gonna get Odyssey too and finally gonna read them once I get those two books on my hands. (procrastinating much? nah. imma read them for real🤞🏻)

  • 🔥 This books is set years upon years from now in a world completely different from ours..or is it? *
Quotes from The Fifth Season: 🔥" This is what you must remember: the ending of one story is just the beginning of another. This has happened before, after all. People die. Old orders pass. New societies are born. When we say “the world has ended,” it’s usually a lie, because the planet is just fine. But this is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. This is the way the world ends. For the last time.
*
🔥"We aren't human." "Yes. We. Are." His voice turns fierce. "I don't give a shit what the something-somethingth council of big important farts decreed, or how the geomests classify things, or any of that. That we're not human is just the lie they tell themselves so they don't have to feel bad about how they treat us."
*
🔥" But what is important is that you know it was not all terrible. There was peace in long stretches, between each crisis. A chance to cool and solidify before the grind resumed."
*
*
The Broken Earth trilogy is a beautiful and heartbreaking masterpiece.

.
Hey everyone! I’ll be participating in both the #isotravelchallenge2020 by @backpackingbookworm as well as the @maytheoddsreadathon ! I probably won’t be able to finish this entire stack this month but we’ll see how it goes. Let me know if you’ve read any of these books and your thoughts on them!! I’m particularly excited about The Lady Rogue and The Fifth Season (and my Hunger Games reread of course!)
.
P.S. the iCloud link wasn’t working to share this picture since I took it on my brothers phone so i had to screenshot it. I’m sorry that the quality is bad☹️

Hello my little foxes, what are your biggest fears? ✨
.
A few days ago I watched Divergent for probably the hundredth time and during a scene where one of the most important characters, Four, was talking about his four fears, I asked myself what I'm afraid of. 🤔
I fear anything that's meant to be scary such as terrifying clowns and dolls, but also dogs, needles and losing people I care about. 🦊

.

  • I told you last week I wasn't particularly impressed when I started When We Left Cuba; I think some of the elements of the book, the dialogue in particular, could have been better executed.

That being said, I ended up enjoying this overall. It's a story about Beatriz's love for her country, Cuba, to which she desperately wants to return after being exiled in the US during the revolution. Beatriz ends up becoming a spy with one goal in mind: to kill Fidel Castro and avenge her brother.

Like the first book, Next Year in Havana (which focuses on Beatriz's sister, Elisa), this is a beautiful portrait of forbidden love. The characters are formidable women who had to leave their lives behind and sacrifice a lot for the greater good, and I can't say no to something so beautifully tragic. Beatriz is an incredible character, a fearless, smart, beautiful woman who won't conform to what life expects of her in the 50s.

If you loved the first book, I encourage you to read this one as well, but try to manage your expectations - in my opinion, When We Left Cuba doesn't have that "je ne sais quoi" that made the first title so amazing.

Have you read When We Left Cuba? What did you think?📚

  • I told you last week I wasn't particularly impressed when I started When We Left Cuba; I think some of the elements of the book, the dialogue in particular, could have been better executed.

  • good morning everyone 💛 if you didn’t know, Six of Crows and Kanej own my heart and soul! I read SOC for the first time earlier this year and I fell in love with our band of thieves from the very start. Inej is one of my favorite fictional characters ever and I can’t wait to see @amitasuman_ bring her to life on the screen!⁣
⁣
Q: If you’ve read this duology, who is your favorite? ⁣
A: Inej is my #1 forever, but I also hold Nina, Jesper, and Kaz very close to my heart!⁣

  • Q: Do you like stenciled edges?
.
I love stenciled edges!! I think they are so beautiful and add something extra special to a book 😍
The Waterstones edition of The Starless Sea is the only book I own with stenciled edges, but it might honestly be my most favorite design I've ever seen on a book 😍😍
I wish more books had them, but I'm sure it's expensive to do 😭

  • Q: Do you ever take a picture, go to post it, and then decide you don't like it and decide to retake the whole thing?
.
That's what happened to me today 😅 I had a picture planned, and decided I didn't like it so I redid it, and I'm much happier with this one!! 🙌🏻
That's one of the reasons I struggle with taking pictures in advance... the day comes to post them, and I end up not liking them anymore. However, I do like to take a bunch when the sun's out because that can be kinda rare here in Ohio and my pictures thrive on natural light 😂😂

  • 📚 BOOK REVIEW 📚
.
"When you've lost everything," she whispered, "you're free to do anything."
Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff
⭐⭐⭐⭐
.
Well this was an intense and emotional rollercoaster 😂 It literally picks up where Lifel1k3 ended and doesn't. Stop.
That being said, I only gave it 4 stars because I felt like it did get bogged down in description at times.
.
Nevertheless I still thought the pacing was on point, we got to see more of this amazing and terrifying world Kristoff created, and character development was amazeballs.
The story was told from multiple POVS, with the main voice being Lemon Fresh. I loved reading more from her POV!! She was one of my favorite characters from the first one, so I loved getting to know her better and watch her take control of her life, and be the leader that she is.
We're also introduced to quite a few new characters, and a lot I love, a couple I really freaking hate, and one I hate to love and love to hate. 😂
Also, twists and turns abound in this one and, in true Kristoff fashion, most of them broke my heart 🙃
.
Overall I really enjoyed this one, and need the next one ASAP!!!

It’s no secret that there has been some debate in the booksta community today. Here’s the thing.. I’m so tired of people shaming others for how they choose to read or run their accounts and thought I’d toss in my two cents. ⁣———————⁣⁣
Your account is your own! Do with it what you please. Host giveaways, SFSs, buddy reads, book clubs, join engagement groups! Make new friends and gush/rant about your current read. Spend as much or as little time taking photos as you want/can. Share books you love! Share things that make you feel something. Share whatever the hell you want because it is YOUR account.⁣⁣
Yes, it’s super exciting to hit milestones and those should absolutely be celebrated, no matter how big or small! But to think your achievements are “more genuine” or “more organic” than someone else’s is bullshit. Engagement groups aren’t lazy. People behind aesthetic accounts still read. It’s okay to unfollow people you don’t vibe with (gasp!). Theres nothing wrong with dog-earring or writing in your own books. Audiobooks 👏🏻 are 👏🏻 still 👏🏻 books 👏🏻 ⁣⁣
The important thing is that we all share a love of reading and are doing something that brings us joy. We all are taking different paths to get where we are going, but that doesn’t make us any less than anyone else. You do what works for you. There’s too much real shit happening in the world right now to start this nonsense and essentially bully people for how they choose to engage. Mind ya business. Worry about yourself. End of story. ⁣

For more perspectives, check out @hangryforfiction @booksandcatsandstuff @librarygoblin @ellekreads they are far better at voicing what I’m trying to convey😂

  • 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝘆?
☼
hello readers ♥️ i scheduled posting this picture several days ago, having no idea how on point it was going to be.

pictured above is the beautiful @alter_ego_edizioni edition of beauty and the beast, my favorite fairytale ever. why do you ask? well, belle is the only princess i can really relate to — she’s fierce, independent, smart, focused only on herself and with no need for a man. oh, and she loves books. but what i admire about her the most is her ability to go beyond the surface: we all know she ends up falling in love with the beast, despite his looks. this is a fairytale of course (falling in love with a dog-like creature isn’t what i would consider sane, if i gotta be honest lol) but it should make us think about how often we forget to dive deeper into people’s soul, accepting the surface they want to show us without ever questioning it.

i’ve never been someone to stop at the surface, i always yearn to dive deeper, to explore people’s minds, to understand their thoughts, their motives, how they perceive life. and because of that i feel connected to belle. but the reason why this post is so on point today is that i just spent the most amazing afternoon with someone i deeply care about — someone who, at first, seemed to be the beast. but, after two month of quarantine during which i decided to go beyond the first impression because i wanted to understand who this person truly is deep down, i now know his true self and how beautiful of a person he is. and i’m so, so happy i decided to not stop at the surface.
