"The Night Circus." -The name of the book.
I finished this book yesterday and I miss it already. I haven't edited a book before so I wasn't sure exactly how this was going to turn out considering there aren't scenes or actors. But this book provided more than enough inspiration for me to create this! If you haven't read The Night Circus I HIGHLY recommend it. It gripped me from beginning to end (cliche but true) and blew me away. I had the Amelie soundtrack on whilst reading it and it was PERFECT. The feel of the story and the vibe of the music came together beautifully. But even without that soundtrack, the story is... I can only describe it as *chef's kiss* because I am GENUINELY speechless. I'm sad it's over, but I look forward to reading The Starless Sea which is also written by Erin Morgenstern. If you want a truly magical book, I suggest giving this one a go. I hope this edit at least gets you to consider reading it hehe.

"The finest of pleasures are always the unexpected ones." (and same was my case with this gem of a book) ~The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.
.
• Book Review #45 •
.
I was introduced to the power of 'magic and friendship' via J.K Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, whereas I was introduced to the power of 'magic and love' via Erin Morgenstern's breathtaking debut "The Night Circus" ... Ok, that was a very off introduction, my apologies, but I just don't know how to praise the enchanting Night Circus in just a limited amount of words ... and well, I have wasted quite a few already.
.
"The Circus arrives without a warning; it is simply there, when yesterday it was not." It travels round the globe, attracting thousands of reveurs, who devotedly follow this enchanting black and white circus, with a distinguished red piece of clothing adorned. To them it might be a fascinating circus, but things are darker and nastier, it is a competition, which might as well cost someone's or maybe many lives. Morgenstern takes you through this roller coaster ride, and you travel places with all the characters, that together contribute to the grandeur of the circus.
.
For me, it's not only the storyline that should be appealing, but an intricately woven prose and a fine writing style always stand out. Erin was amazing with the structure, diction, and dialogues, that you could actually feel the magic of writing taking over you. However, the reason why I did not give this book five stars was that it bored me in the initial pages...
.
Apart from that, the element of magic and romance never really dulls throughout the book, and that is enough for anyone to pick this book and delve into the magical prose that will surely not disappoint you.
.
One theme that was beautifully covered in this novel was the parallels drawn between love and pain, "It's as if there is love and loss at the same time, together in a kind of beautiful pain."
.
Just read this book...I cannot do justice to it...even the above words don't feel of any worth in front of such an awe-inspiring book. .

  • 📚April/May Reading Wrap Up📚⁣ With recent events, I, like a lot of book bloggers, am taking this moment to evaluate my reading habits and I'm disappointed in myself. In the last two months I have only read one book written by a person of color. In all of 2020 so far, I have read a whopping three. I know reading is only the first step in helping make systemic change, but I'm hoping it will be my first of many. My newest blog post details my May reads, but also includes my June TBR in which I hope to greatly diversify my reading list. If you have any recommendations to help me do this, please send them my way.

Both my April and May wrap ups are now on my blog (#mediocrebookstagrammer ). Click the link in my bio for more details.

I enjoyed the beautifully constructed world inside the circus. The glitz & magic was entertaining but it lacked oomph! I expected more, so much more!
•
It had a good premise. The first chapters reeled me in - promising a thrilling display of magical prowess from these two illusionists but it completely fell apart until the end. The end game was weak and I felt that there was no conclusion at all! It left me hanging, not for more of the story, but just more of everything! Ugh!
•
I still gave it a 3 because the writing was good but the story...not so much. 😞

  • THE NIGHT CIRCUS
————————————————————————-
Author: Erin Morgenstern
Genre: Fantasy
Goodreads score: 4.04
My score: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ————————————————————————-
I was really lucky to have this book gifted to me via a book swap, and I was intrigued as I had never heard of the book before! There is next to no synopsis on the physical book so I had to go on Goodreads to get a sense of what the book would be about - and my first thought was that I would never have picked this book up off the shelf by myself. I personally think this is the beauty of book swaps, so I was really pleased that the book was something different to what I usually read.
However, I found it a little too different for me! Plus, after reading the book, I think the synopsis overstates the plot quite a lot - the duel that takes place is in no way the ‘fierce competition’ it is pitted to be - its an incredibly slow paced ‘game’ played out over 16 years.
The books narrative style in non-linear with multiple view points, mixing both third and second person narration. This shifting narrative confused me somewhat and I had to keep flicking back through the book to work out what time frame I was currently reading about.
The writing in this novel is definitely enchanting - using multiple short sentences to weave together detailed description. However it’s so heavily descriptive that I read over 200 pages before realising that very little had happened/progressed. As I normally prefer action driven novel plots, I have to admit I found it difficult to stay engaged at times. 3 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️ ————————————————————————-
***The background for this picture is an Anthony Pilley print( Las Ramblas), that is hanging in my house, which I bought in Barcelona many years ago. I’ve always loved this painting for it’s circus-like quality - I think it gives me the same feeling of ‘magic’ that many people feel when reading this book!*** #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #quarantinereads #booklover #artist #lasramblas #thenightcircus #amaeturphotography #bookphotography #booksbooksbooks #bookoholics

  • You may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone’s soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. That tale will move them and drive them and who knows what they might do because of it, because of your words. That is your role, your gift. ~ Erin Morgenstern • The Night Circus 🎪 •

  • I'm so much happy right now! It's been 5 days since my books arrived and I touched them for the first time 😭! My wait was so long but at the end so sweet 😌. I have started with City of Bones and I'm already loving it! Also I changed my theme, a new filter! Cause I got bored with the previous one.

  • #tbrpost .
After finishing Words of Radiance Part I this is my TBR stack for June. 6 books written by three authors: #brandonsanderson #veschwab #erinmorgenstern .
Words Of Radiance and Oathbringer are the remaining books of the Stormlight Archive Saga I have left and since the next book is announced for December 2020 I figured it would be time for a reread.
.
A Gathering Of Shadows and A Conjuring Of Light by V.E. Schwab are the second and third books of the A Darker Shade Of Magic Trilogy and I'm very excited about reading those since I've heard a view reviews that it only gets better from the first book.
.
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. Actually I don't know much about this book. I saw it, loved the cover and the text on the back so I just bought it. I like to get surprised by books and stories so I hardly ever read reviews before reading the book itself.

  • ***REVIEW & SPOILERS*** I was extremely excited to start The Night Circus. Between the historical and fantasy setting surrounding a magical travelling circus in the 1800-1900s, it was right up my alley. And while the writing was beautiful in regards to the setting and tone, much of the book felt more like exposition than action. I was constantly waiting for it to pick up, or at least give a greater insight into the characters. It didn’t deliver the way I thought it would. While the characters WERE full of intrigue, I couldn’t connect with them because the chronology and the constantly shifting focus, as well as the omniscient narrator, made me feel very disconnected from it all. I didn’t understand their motives. I didn’t understand the world in which it was set. I didn’t understand why things happened when they did. It was clever and I can appreciate what the author attempted, but as a personal preference, the writing style left me wishing for something more. That, and every time the plot picked up, it went back to being slow a chapter later.
I rated this book three stars because the author constructed a plot full of mystery and intrigue—but also because I never quite understood the point of any of it, even at the end. The romance came suddenly rather than being built up. I liked never quite knowing the moral standing of the characters, Marco in particular, but in the same instance I wanted to understand them better. It’s not something I would reread, but it is something that left me longing for a night at the circus myself. I’m glad I read it, but it didn’t meet my expectations—and perhaps that’s my fault! This very much felt like a book written for the sake of the circus aesthetic that just so happened to have a non-linear plot surrounding fantasy. It’s not something I would reread, but I know a lot of people loved it!

  • A little bookish photo ❥ to brighten your day.... What do you do to help you relax after a crazy day? ☕️📖 Lots of crazy stuff has been happening these last few months! Everything seems off and it can get pretty stressful! It’s so important to take time for yourself every day! I love listening to my Calm app, reading a good book, or reorganizing my book room to help me digress. 🙂

  • Happy June Bookstagram Friends! 🌞📚
•
These are the books I'd like to read in June:
📖 The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes - Suzanne Collins
📖 The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern
📖 The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Stephen Chobosky

And probably
📖 Sorcery of Thorns - Magaret Rodgerson
•
I'm so excited for these books since they all seem like books I'd be really in to! I let my mood dictate my reading though, so who knows if I'll find something else interesting during the month 😆
•
What are you planning to read during June? Do you like to plan out your reading or go with the flow? 🌺

  • "I am tired of trying to hold things together that cannot be held. Trying to control what cannot be controlled. I am tired of denying myself what I want for fear of breaking things I cannot fix. They will break no matter what we do"
🌆🎠🎪
I just want to hop into this book's world, if I'm completely honest. Mystery, magic and romance; It checks many of my favourite genres!
The world was so well written and the surroundings described ever so carefully that it felt as if I was there, at Le Cirque Des Réves. The ending was also really nice, as it had a nice last twist to the story🎡

I give this book: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5

  • I decided it was time to revisit The Night Circus🎪 that has such beautiful writing and visuals you can’t help but feel like you’ve been to the real night circus. I forgot so many things in this which made it feel like I was reading parts of it for the first time. I wish I could dive into this book and spend a night exploring all the tents and eating the yummy food 🥰 .

  • happy june everyone!! I read 14 books in May which I didn’t even realize until I went and counted them up on goodreads lol. i won’t include them all here but my goodreads is linked in my bio if you want to look there :) what were your favorite books that you read in may? •
•
book review 🍂 the starless sea
4/5 stars. i put a more in-depth review on goodreads as well :) This book is a thousand beautiful stories within one. It talks about an underground library— universe might be a better word— that lives along what is known as the starless sea. There is magic, mystery, atmosphere, books, love and some of the most gorgeous writing I have ever set my eyes on. Of course, there were some things I didn’t enjoy (lack of character depth & some confusing plot lines), but all in all I really enjoyed this book and recommend it! I think it would make the perfect winter read even though I read it in May!

  • 🏖B’s June TBR pile 🏖 I actually managed to read all but one of my May stack (and one was a DNF), so maybe having a reading plan works for me! For June, my #tbr consists of:
.
The Night Circus and In Five Years - #bookstagram giveaway wins;
.
The Dry - highly recommended and borrowed from a friend;
.
American Royals - an impulse #quarantine buy;
.
On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous - a gift from my sister-in-law that is the lone holdover from my May TBR;
.
Educated and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks - tied in votes by all of you in my poll for which older titles I should read; and
.
The Warmth of Other Suns - expanding my knowledge on an important topic that I frankly should have read before now.
.
Thoughts on what to start with? Happy June reading!

  • Good afternoon. I just found out My Shy Boss is on Netflix now. I've been waiting to see the fifth episode for forever now. I'm about to read "When Dimple Met Rishi" for a little bit and stretch because I'm feeling really stiff and my back hurts. 😩

#QOTD If you were to be friends with any fictional character who would it be?
#AOTD I would want to be friends with Jem Carstairs because he's just a wonderful guy and easy to get a long with. Although, he would make me worry probably 100 times a day.

  • What are you hoping to read this month?
.
I don't really make a TBR because I know I won't stick to it because I am such a mood reader. Trying to stick to a TBR usually just makes me read less as I try to push through books that I'm not in the mood for. I do want to try and read Shatter Me and I hope to also finish the Infernal Devices.
.
This is day one of #RFABJune20 - remember you can join in on as many days as you like. Each day you take part is an entry into the giveaway. The #RFABMay20 has now finished and I will be announcing the winner of that giveaway by the weekend.

  • QOTD: Do you have a goal for this month?
Happy June! Here's my May round off. I didn't manage to read as many as I wanted to because of certain... things but 4 isn't too bad. I'm kicking June off with The Odyssey. What about you?
Apologies again for the slight hiatus I accidentally took.
-
Be kind to yourself. It's okay if you're struggling. You're in a stressful situation and you don't have to be perfect. Do your best to take care of yourself and that includes mentally. Shower, eat, drink, sleep but also talk to someone you love, do something you enjoy and don't be too hard on yourself.

I finished this book almost two weeks ago but I have been really busy with schoolwork so I haven’t had the chance to write a review, but, here I am. I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern in 2019 and it immediately became on of my all time favorites and so, naturally, I had incredibly high expectations for this novel. •
•
Unfortunately, I didn’t love this one as much and it’s quite annoying to me because this is a book that I so wanted to love. However, I did not absolutely HATE it. It was somewhat enjoyable in a magical sort of way. I loved the magical, captivating atmosphere of the book, but then again I’m a sucker for anything magic-related. I also saw that some people were annoyed with the constantly changing POVs or the time jumps but to me both of those were a perk. In my opinion, such things make a book more interesting. Nevertheless, that’s just about the only things I liked about this book. •
•
Something I truly disliked is that I had no idea what was going on for the first 300 pages or so, and I really don’t think that was due to my lack of comprehension, and even when things started “coming together” at the end I still didn’t get what the point was. Where was the plot? I don’t believe there actually was one. •
•
Frankly, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. •

  • My May reads (minus Clockwork Orange, as I did not unfortunately get to this one, but plan to this month) + Little Fires Everywhere 🔥 + New Moon 🌙 + Carrie 🩸
I had a really productive month of reading in May, and have officially started back to work. I’m sad that I have less time to do nothing but read basically, but really pushed my reading limits (not intentionally) and learned a lot in the process! I usually only read 1-3 books a month. This month I effectively read 6! I did obviously have more time on my hands, but I also chose reading over tv and movies or video games a lot more than I had before. This provided me a lot of insight on how I use (or sometimes waste) my time when work is thrown into the picture.
I guess I often feel that my time away from work is so precious because I only have a bit, and so many things I want to do, that I sometimes end up overwhelming myself and scrolling my phone while mindlessly watching (but not even paying attention) to Netflix.
And then I’m just sad because I didn’t read a few chapters, or go on a walk, I didn’t spend extra time cooking for myself or a watching something that helped me grow. •
•
•
Anyone else feel like they waste hours of their time sometimes, only to then feel mad at themselves and not even understand why?
So, take any free time you have these days to learn more about yourself and time. Because after all, time is just a construct 🤷‍♀️

Evening, my lovelies!

It’s extremely blustery today in the UK, the wind has come out of nowhere! The only good thing about it is it brings on those cosy feelings at night when you’re reading and you can hear the wind through the trees ✨✨ What’s your favourite reading weather?

Also if you’ve never read Erin Morgenstern you should add her to your TBR asap because her storytelling is something else! ✨

  • << Falando Sobre>>⁣ O circo da Noite | Erin Morgnestern | @intriseca⁣
⁣⁣
⁣⁣

    ⁣⁣

  • QOTD: what fictional character would you like to quarantine with?
•
Hey guys! Now that I’ve finally recovered from my wisdom teeth removal my little sister is about to go under the knife. She’s getting then out tomorrow morning so she’s eating as much food as she can today 😂. Today’s post features one of my favorite books that I have in my collection—The Starless Sea by @erinmorgenstern. I started the audiobook a few days ago, and while I’m not the biggest fan of audiobooks, I’m really enjoying myself. Have you read The Starless Sea? If so, what did you think?

Happy Monday bookworms! I hope you’re all having a lovely day! What are you currently reading? I’m currently reading 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 and I’m enjoying it so far! I’ve heard from some of you that the story is a bit sad at the end and I don’t know if I’m ready for that😂⁣

𝐐𝐎𝐓𝐃: What are your essentials for a cozy day? What weather gives you cozy vibes?⁣
⁣
Tea, candles, a book, a comfy sweater, and blanket are my must have essentials for a cozy day! Add some rainy weather and I have my perfect day👌🏼The Night Circus is so atmospheric and gives me all the cozy vibes! Everything about it screams COZY!!! I adore it and highly suggest reading it if you’re looking for a historical fiction book with lyrical writing and a sprinkle of romance!✨

  • I’m going to pat myself on the back here and say that assigning The Night Circus to my Women in Literature students is one of the best decisions I’ve made. Not only did I get to reread it for “work” but discussing Marco, Celia, Isobel, and the whole crew with teenage girls has been insanely fun. Also being able to read outside has significantly improved my quarantine life. Trying to look at the positives this week, ya know?
