  • What's North Kingstown reading:
Lee-Ann (teen librarian) just finished "The Starless Sea" by Erin Morgenstern. This book is all about stories and stories how connect, overlap and reconnect. Fairy tales also play a large part in this book. I picked up on Alice in Wonderland, The Owl and the Pussycat and lots of Hans Christian Andersen and Grimm. This book fits in well with the 2020 Imagine Your Story Summer Reading theme. This title and Morgenstern's first book "The Night Circus" are available in ezone. What are you reading?

  • Okay..... I was HYPED for this, I went and bought it almost as soon as it came out because I just couldn't wait (then I had a kid and all hopes of reading or any activity went out the window... but that's another topic). ●
The Night Circus remains in my top three favorite books of all time. ●
I love Morgenstern's writing style. LOVE IT. It's so fantastical and imaginative and descriptive, it's so easy to see the story she is telling, and I just love that. ●
With that being said..... I was pretty let down by this book- I usually say story, but I can't say that with this one, because there are SO MANY STORIES within the cover. Too many. ●
I really feel that the overall concept is amazing- I love the castle/library on the starless sea, Time and Fate, the artistic aspects of the stories, the way that Morgenstern weaves in small stories into her main story.
But there were way too many small stories that she tried to weave in- it became too much to keep up with, and I feel like some of them didn't lend anything to the main story; in fact, I feel more strongly that they took away from the main storyline because they detracted focus from the main story. It did not feel cohesive. ●
And the ending- really? There is no ending, just the start of another story? Too many stories! I feel unresolved and a little sad. ●
I wanted to love it, I really really REALLY wanted to love it. I will continue to recommend Night Circus to almost everyone, but this one will have to go to the back of the shelves. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #ashreadstoescape  #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bibliophile #bookish #booknerd #bookworm #bookaddict #bookaholic #ilovebooks #readingtime #bookcollector #bookpic #bookgram #readinglist #booksofinstagram #reader #readersofinstagram #bookreview #thestarlesssea

  • 🍃 Readathon TBR 🍃
.
This month, I'm taking part in the #MakeYourMythTaker, a month-long readathon in which you create your fantasy character. I aim to become an Oracle (swipe to the second photo.) If you want more information, I recommend you check out @mythtakereads account.
.
.
The prompts:
🌙 An Oracle's power is in their third eye, not their usual sight: Go into a book blind.
The Near Witch by V.E. Schwab
.
🌙 Your magic shines through: Read a book with a foiled cover.
Pan's Labyrinth by Guillermo Del Toro & Cornelia Funke, illustrated by Allen Williams
.
🌙 Truth or lies, you are always telling stories: Read a book about books.
The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern
.
🌙 Should you trust your third eye? Read a five star prediction.
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin
.
I will also attempt to read as many diverse books as I can in support of BLM and Pride Month, this month and all months!

  • Happy pride!
I’m someone who doesn’t plan their tbr, so I don’t have any unread lgbt+ books right now to read. What I do plan to do is become a scribd member again and listen to lgbt+ audiobooks by black authors and I’ll order an unkindness of ghosts by rivers solomon from my local indi bookstore.
The books I want to listen to on scribd are:
- felix ever after by kacen callender
- king and the dragon flies by kacen callender - the deep by rivers solomon
More recomendations are always welcome!

  • Some of my favorite little joys are when a book by a favorite author mentions another of your favorite books that you think no one else really knows about (but they probably do). And this wasn’t the first time either! The Shadow of the Wind was also mentioned - another favorite. I absolutely love here that Tartt’s The Goldfinch is simple y referred to as “that bird one” (though to be honest, I struggled to read it too). #thestarlesssea #erinmorgenstern #thesecrethistory #donnatartt

  • The Starless Sea
Erin Morgenstern

And I finally finish the book in about a month...😊
The book is a whirlwind again after the Night Circus.. Too much of fantasy, magic and storytelling about a far off magical place with the best hotel and the Kitchen that you can dream of next to a Starless Sea.. Dreamy isn’t it??
The book is divided into books and reality(of the characters) and how all is intertwined.. You could enter the magical world by opening the right door from the real world..
A book about books.. A book about hidden stories and meanings.. A book about the magical world where you can read to your heart’s content.. What more could you want??? Well I am disappointed.. The book and characters could not strike a chord.. I mean the intertwined stories were magical and the best part of the book but they are really small.. The book laps over itself and creates dimensions which at times are not too easy to understand and enjoy.. I guess I expected something even at a bigger scale than Night circus with a lot of grandeur, mystery, magic and loveable characters.. The Starless Sea does cover for some bits but leaves the reader asking for much more.. Give it a try and maybe you find it more entertaining than me. #thestarlesssea @erinmorgenstern #thebigbookbox @tbb_box #storywithinastory #bookstagram #books #magic #fictionalworld #thekitchen #bees #keys #sword #mystic #inception #fate #time #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklover #bibliophile #bangalorebookstagram #mylatestread #saditsover

  • Taking sometime away from the big city and spend it with family and The Starless Sea in the good weather. Sommer is now in Denmark and this Viking is melting away and wished for cold and snow 🤣. I have a hard time to sit and read atm and the heat dosnt help it neither. But I force my self and The Starless Sea is interesting and new thinking.

  • [🇩🇪] Das Sternenlose Meer - 𝐑𝐞𝐳𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧
.
Guten Morgen ihr Lieben,
habt ihr schon ein Jahreshighlight? Wenn Ja, welches?
.

  • ~BOOK REVIEW~ by Lareesa
-
⭐️The Starless Sea⭐️by Erin Morgenstern
-
I wanted so much to love this book. I wanted to dive into the magic and be all consumed by an amazing story but that didn’t happen for me.
-
For me this was a book that had so much potential. Potential to be absolutely insane!! The writing is insanely good but the story was just one big mess to me. And, even though the writing was masterpiece quality, without the story to back it up, it just became beautiful words thrown on a page.
There were so many separate entities that I loved. The books within are amazing magical stories and the writing of these parts is almost poetic. The imagination of this women is phenomenal, however once it came back to the main story line it just fell flat 🤷🏽‍♀️
-
I was keen to see where the romance between Zachary and Dorian was going to go. I was so excited as it’s an lgbt focused novel but then as soon as it was there it was gone again and would get gobbled up by more crazy beautiful words. It lacked feeling and I found I had to make so many assumptions where the romance was concerned.

At one point the story did get somewhere and I thought, oh right! that’s why I read those first 280 pages, but when I started to think yes!! something is about to happen!! it went and took me somewhere else and just confused the heck outta me.
The ending was the biggest let down. I was left with so many questions. I guess leaving it open for sequel? Not sure. I feel like the ending was rushed which made the story loose all its wonder.

Reading this book felt like I was staring at an amazing piece of art trying to understand it. It is astheticly pleasing and i can appreciate its beauty but i will never actually understand it.
-
I’m sorry to anyone reading this who loved it. I am in such mixed minds about it, it was very hard to write this review and get across what I actually mean. - ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 from me. I wanted to give it more because of the steller writing and imagination but I wanted to be mind blown and I wasn’t.

4/5 stars. i put a more in-depth review on goodreads as well :) This book is a thousand beautiful stories within one. It talks about an underground library— universe might be a better word— that lives along what is known as the starless sea. There is magic, mystery, atmosphere, books, love and some of the most gorgeous writing I have ever set my eyes on. Of course, there were some things I didn’t enjoy (lack of character depth & some confusing plot lines), but all in all I really enjoyed this book and recommend it! I think it would make the perfect winter read even though I read it in May!
  • happy june everyone!! I read 14 books in May which I didn’t even realize until I went and counted them up on goodreads lol. i won’t include them all here but my goodreads is linked in my bio if you want to look there :) what were your favorite books that you read in may? •

  • I usually don’t do monthly #tbr lists, because I’m such an indecisive person and I like choosing my current reads as I go. But I really wanted to participate in #booknerdsandfriends June challenge so here is my most likely tbr for the month lol there’s definitely like 10 other books I’ll probably pick up but these are my most anticipated ones! •

  • What are you hoping to read this month?
.
I don't really make a TBR because I know I won't stick to it because I am such a mood reader. Trying to stick to a TBR usually just makes me read less as I try to push through books that I'm not in the mood for. I do want to try and read Shatter Me and I hope to also finish the Infernal Devices.
.
This is day one of #RFABJune20 - remember you can join in on as many days as you like. Each day you take part is an entry into the giveaway. The #RFABMay20 has now finished and I will be announcing the winner of that giveaway by the weekend.

  • May wrap up! I fell into a bit of a slump this month and only managed to read two books but that’s okay! I was hoping to finish Seraphina by Rachel Hartman yesterday but just couldn’t get in the mood to read. Even so, I loved The Starless Sea and Outlander and I’m feeling really motivated to do better in June! These books are so different from each other so I don’t think I can choose a favorite. I guess if I were to reread one I’d probably go for for the Starless Sea since it’s shorter and isn’t part of a series. It’s such a fun book to get swept up in and it would be interesting to go back and keep track of all the symbolism in it! What book did you love this month??

  • Evening lovelies! I meant to get this finished and posted yesterday, but I had a migraine so had to wait till I was finished work to finish! I thought I'd try and do something a bit different for my May monthly wrap up as I read a lot of kindle books. So I had a bit of fun illustrating my monthly wrap up ❤ I had no idea I had read 9 books and listened to 1 audio book this month!
🐝 what was your favourite book this month? I think mine was The Girl and The Stars...

  • Absolutely one of my favourite reads this year. Not going to spoil anything about the story because this is a story you need to discover, follow and unravel yourself.
But a salute to the style of writing, the lovable characters (most of them anyway 😉), the magic that drips from all the pages and the hours of sheer joy that this story gave me.

For all of us who wander into wardrobes looking for Narnia, who sit on antique Orietal carpets just in case they might be magical or who hope to read themselves into their book. You do not want to miss this one.

I finished this book almost two weeks ago but I have been really busy with schoolwork so I haven’t had the chance to write a review, but, here I am. I read The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern in 2019 and it immediately became on of my all time favorites and so, naturally, I had incredibly high expectations for this novel. •
•
Unfortunately, I didn’t love this one as much and it’s quite annoying to me because this is a book that I so wanted to love. However, I did not absolutely HATE it. It was somewhat enjoyable in a magical sort of way. I loved the magical, captivating atmosphere of the book, but then again I’m a sucker for anything magic-related. I also saw that some people were annoyed with the constantly changing POVs or the time jumps but to me both of those were a perk. In my opinion, such things make a book more interesting. Nevertheless, that’s just about the only things I liked about this book. •
•
Something I truly disliked is that I had no idea what was going on for the first 300 pages or so, and I really don’t think that was due to my lack of comprehension, and even when things started “coming together” at the end I still didn’t get what the point was. Where was the plot? I don’t believe there actually was one. •
•
Frankly, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. •

  • what do you want to read in June?
-
This month I’m going to be taking part in the @mythtakereads #makeyourmythtaker readathon and I’m so excited!❤️ Check out @afrolicthroughfiction ‘s YouTube for more details, but here’s a quick summary of my TBR for the Monarch character:
✨Descendant of the Crane (not pictured): Queen as the main character
✨Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: reread a favourite ✨Girls of Paper and Fire (reread): red/purple/gold cover
✨Hamnet: highest rated
-
Aside from these 4, I also want to read the sequel to Girls of Paper and Fire, Girls of Storm and Shadow. I’ve also had The Starless Sea on my TBR since it came out and I still haven’t read it🙈 In case you didn’t know, June is Pride Month so reading some books with LGBTQ+ rep is definitely a priority. I made a few lists of recommendations last year so I’ll probably do an updated post this month🏳️‍🌈
-
That being said, just because it’s Pride Month, it doesn’t mean we should lose focus on the Black Lives Matter movement. It’s important to remember that a lot of the progress we gained in LGBTQ+ rights came from riots like Stonewall, where trans and queer Black people were at the centre. Continue educating yourself this Pride!

⠀
👍🏻 A book I’d give a thumbs up to: The Starless Sea - As more time passes the more I grow to love this one, a very special book. If you’re a fan of Erin’s other book The Night Circus, you’ll love this one. Imagine if Alice in Wonderland took place in a huge library world with tales of fate and time.
⠀
👆🏻A book I’d recommend: It’s Kind Of A Funny Story - One of my favourites from my teen years, the book tackles the subject of mental health from various perspective’s with a whole bunch of likeable characters.
⠀
🖕🏻A book I didn’t enjoy: Delirium - I absolutely adored the concept of this one, I thought the premise was well fleshed out and I would have loved to love it but I just didn’t get on with the characters and the pacing was way too slow for me.
⠀
💍 A character I would marry: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland - I struggled with this one, most of the books I have are from female perceptive’s so I opted for the Mad Hatter because why not?? Maybe I would have gone for Owen from Just Listen but I didn’t have the book for the picture.
⠀
🤙🏻 A book I promise I’ll read: The Flat Share - I’ve had this book for a bit and got it because of the hype. I’m reading this as part of @beccasbookishblog book club and we are starting this week so I will actually read it!
⠀
I hope you’ve all had a great day, there’s something about a Monday that I always enjoy - it’s like a mini refresh? Add in that it’s a new month and I have the itch to get organised! I’m going to start bullet journaling again, which leads me to my question of the day...
⠀
QOTD: Do you bullet journal? How do you get your inspiration?

It is June. I don't know HOW we've made it to June already because it feels like March never ended, something may or may not have happened in April, and what even was May? But it's here and we're approaching the halfway mark for the year. I'd like to think the world can't get much worse and surely we're going to see something good in the coming months but 2020 has proven it's pointless to set reasonable expectations.

One thing that hasn't changed are the books! More are releasing each week and I'm particularly excited for some of tomorrow's titles which I hope to get later in the week.

In the meantime, it's June. It's Pride Month. I'm working on my TBR right now but wanted to share one of my favorite diverse reads from last year, THE STARLESS SEA. This book is all sorts of magical and it was definitely worth the years waiting for another book from Erin Morgenstern (if you've been around for a while you likely know I'm obsessed with her first book, THE NIGHT CIRCUS)

Which diverse books are you planning to read this month?

  • How many books are you planning on reading in June?

I am planning to read quite a lot of books (for me at least 😅, I know some people read 31 books in a month. But I am just a normal person 😂) I am taking part in the #meetyourmythtaker #mythtakereadathon this month and I am following the path of a Jester turning into an oracle. I am very excited to join and read my four books. The prompts are:
A fun middle grade: Land of roar
A book with the colour red, gold or purple: Name of the wind
A book about books: The starless sea
A 5 star read prediction: House of salt and sorrows

I also have some buddyreads planned this month. So together with @momstuckinabook and @captivated_pages I will read All the stars and teeth.
@booksofmyshka and I will read Clap when you land this month. We will also be reading Land of roar and The starless sea together if everything goes well.
And @bookbakingwithmagic and I will reread The winner’s curse together so we can continue reading the trilogy with @booksofmyshka in July.
... can you tell I love buddyreads? 🧐

I’m very excited to read all these books this month and I hope it works out! We’ll see how far I get.

  • THE STARLESS SEA by Erin Morgenstern ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I’ve seen so many mixed reviews on this book (several people who love it, then several people who couldn’t finish it). Please tell me your thoughts below!

When Zachary Ezra Rawlings finds a mysterious book in his college library in which he finds himself as one of the characters, he is transformed to a world that forces him to create his own story (⬅️ super short synopsis. Expect soooo much more complication than that). 1. This book is beautifully written. It balances between a sophisticated tongue-in-cheek storytelling, to a more lyrical approach when in the main character’s perspective. The way Morgenstern switches between “stories” and Zachary is a really fresh and brilliant format, but it does force the reader to stay on their toes. At times, I was truly confused as to what was going on and how the “stories” were relevant, but it eventually came full circle.
2. I’ve been really getting out of my comfort zone with fantasy-esque stories lately. Some “magical” lands are totally cool with me (like, please take me to Hogwarts), but The Starless Sea/underground library tunnels/inn world was not one that I loved being in.
3. I read this book for a book club. It isn’t something I would’ve picked up on my own, but it’s nice to broaden my horizons. I didn’t love it, but didn’t hate it. —————————————— #bookreview #bookstagram #bookishpost #bookish #bookishlove #booknerd #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #readersofinstagram #readersofinsta #readersofig #booksofig #books #booksbooksbooks #2020readingchallenge #thestarlesssea #fantasybooks #booklover #bookworm #books #followbookstagram #bookclub #starlesssea #thenightcircus #currentlyreading

  • Acolytes- The Bees
“In this honey-tinged pain the young woman in the chair thinks she might scream but she does not. In the darkness the fire seems to consume the entire room and she can see shapes in the flames even though her eyes are covered. The bee on her chest flutters. Once her tongue has been taken and burned and turned to ash, once the ceremony is complete and her servitude as an acolyte officially begins, once her voice has been muted, then her ears awaken. Then the stories begin to come.” - The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

  • QOTD: what fictional character would you like to quarantine with?
•
Hey guys! Now that I’ve finally recovered from my wisdom teeth removal my little sister is about to go under the knife. She’s getting then out tomorrow morning so she’s eating as much food as she can today 😂. Today’s post features one of my favorite books that I have in my collection—The Starless Sea by @erinmorgenstern. I started the audiobook a few days ago, and while I’m not the biggest fan of audiobooks, I’m really enjoying myself. Have you read The Starless Sea? If so, what did you think?

  • Q: Do you like stenciled edges?
.
I love stenciled edges!! I think they are so beautiful and add something extra special to a book 😍
The Waterstones edition of The Starless Sea is the only book I own with stenciled edges, but it might honestly be my most favorite design I've ever seen on a book 😍😍
I wish more books had them, but I'm sure it's expensive to do 😭

  • • wrap up di Maggio 🌟

Grande pollice in su.

  • Don’t you just love these covers? I mean, the UK editions seem to blow pretty much any cover (ever) out of the water, but I’m also rather fond of the US cover, too. Both evoke the story inside the book so well, even as they touch on different things.
.
So I totally strained (that makes it sound serious, like, it just hurts and is sore but still works) a muscle in my thumb, lol. It’s my right thumb, too, so I likely stressed it scrolling through either instagram or twitter. Although I’m not disregarding that it may be from holding open heavy books with just one hand…
.
.
Q. What books did you finish this month?
.
A. I’m quite proud of the amount of reading I got done this month! I mean, sure, I’ve been home for about half of it, but I’m not the quickest reader these days, and I managed to tackle quite a few big books. I started the month with Crescent City, then finally finished The Corner That Held Them, then moved onto Nevernight (which had a slow start but once it kicked into gear I had a hard time staying away from it), and then The Last Wish. I’m not done with Ship of Magic yet, but I have less than a hundred pages left so I’ve no worries that I’ll finish it before the end of the day.

  • ‘Not all stories speak to all listeners, but all listeners can find a story that does, somewhere, sometime. In one form or another.’ ✨

Evening, my lovelies!
QOTD: What stories speak to you?✨ Is it action packed fantasy?

Political Intrigue at a royal court?

Magical schools?
For me I love lyrical writing, anything that adds something mysterious, something whimsical into the story that you can’t quite put your finger on. ✨

Yes this is another Erin Morgenstern post but she deserves it 😂 I read The Starless Sea earlier this year and I fell in love with it. All those unfinished stories, those closed doors, bees in a dolls house, a small boat on a sea of honey all add up to something magical & unique.

I read a beautiful blog post on her recently from @mythicreader where she compared her writing perfectly with music. It’s layered, it’s powerful and it keeps you curious.
And isn’t that what all stories should do? ✨ *

  • Can we take a moment to appreciate all the pretty book covers out there?! 😍

Sea of Books #allthebooksmay20

So I have got into the habit of buying pretty hardbacks and then reading them via audiobook so I don't ruin them. Is that bad? 🤭

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern is an atmospheric, mystical type of book. It is one that is going to take a couple of rereads to truly appreciate. I love Morgenstern's prose but I never seem to fully connect with her characters - so this was a 4 star read for me. I would still like to reread for the lyrical prose style.
Also - it's payday today and I'm really trying to hold off on ordering some new books. I'm going to try and hold off in the hopes I can go to an actual bookshop in June.

  • Multiple editions, yes or no?
I’m clearly an overt yes, but I’m working on being less of that person, not eliminated entirely but trying to be more selective.
▫️
It’s #SignedBookSundays and today’s theme is #BookStack and I’m sharing all the editions I own of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern. All 4 of these are signed which is also rad.
▫️
From left to right, Goldsboro Special Edition UK, Waterstones Special Edition UK (as you can see by the sticker...that hurts my soul), the regular US edition that was signed in person at a launch event in San Francisco (thx @diamondxgirl & @hokugirlreads), and the US ARC that was signed in person at SDCC19, where I got to meet Erin for the first time. She did buzz by me at BookCon 2019, but like literally rushing by her line to start her signing, which I was saving a spot for my friend @bookishbitchywitchy lol 😩😩 I miss events, can you tell?

She did buzz by me at BookCon 2019, but like literally rushing by her line to start her signing, which I was saving a spot for my friend @bookishbitchywitchy lol 😩😩 I miss events, can you tell?
