EXCERPT FROM THE BOOK

Serene plopped down on the bed and buried her face in her pillow before letting out a strangled yell. But even then, her lips remembered Nolan’s, and a tear trickled down her cheek. 'God, why is it so hard to stop feeling this way for him?' Immediately, she knew the answer. Because once in her life, she loved Nolan more than she loved God.

  • Thanks for @nswnationalparks for looking after us today in the heat - transporting our trash bags and keeping us hydrated with #reusable #refillable water 💧 options as we picked up #singleusewaterbottles #petbottles and #bottlelids !

So much polystyrene at this site and degrading single use plastics breaking into smaller pieces. 183 kilograms, 27+ bags, 2.5 hours, 8 hardworking people ( 7 Volunteers from @soshire @plasticfree_sutherlandshire and Sutherland Shire Tangaroa Blue Volunteers and the amazing NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Ranger Hayden who kept us hydrated and safe !) More data and images to come over @so_shire as I audit a fraction of the load tomorrow. A huge thank you to the team today!
Check out our first video :

Wetlands (mangroves, salt marsh, Sea grasses habitats) are important estuarine ecosystems: They are natural filtering systems, provide physical protection for our coasts, are carbon sinks and oxygen manufacturers, and homes, feeding and nursery habitats for native wildlife such as for the sea food we like to eat or that form part of the larger foodweb.

Today was the 30th anniversary of Clean Up Australia Day and we cleaned up a special wetland site of Sutherland Shire today: Towra International Wetlands.
A significant site for our native coastal vegetation, wildlife and migratory animals including wading and shorebirds displaced by Sydney’s airport runways and who now rely on this last remnant estuarine wetland ecosystem.

  • On this special 30th anniversary of Clean Up Australia Day @so_shire cleaned up a special wetland site of Sutherland Shire today.

Towra International Wetlands is a significant site for our native coastal vegetation, wildlife and migratory animals including wading and shorebirds displaced by Sydney’s airport runways and who now rely on this last remnant estuarine wetland ecosystem.

Why are Wetlands (mangroves, salt marsh, Sea grasses habitats) important estuarine ecosystems for humans? They are natural filtering systems, physical protection for our coasts, carbon sinks and oxygen manufacturers, and homes, feeding and nursery habitats for native wildlife such as for the sea food we like to eat or that form part of the larger foodweb.

183 kilograms, 27+ bags, 2.5 hours, 8 hardworking people ( 7 Volunteers from @so_shire @plasticfree_sutherlandshire and Sutherland Shire Tangaroa Blue Volunteers and the amazing @nswnationalparks National Parks and Wildlife Service Ranger Hayden who kept us hydrated and safe !

Not by weight but by quantity, mostly polystyrene pieces, PET bottles and bottle lids, and sadly so much broken up and micro plastic pieces caused by the degradation due to the sun ☀️ salt 🧂 water 💧 and heat over time (so many large objects just crumbled when we picked them up.

More data and images to come after an audit of s fraction of the load tomorrow. A huge thank you to the team today who persevered in the hot sun, insects 🦟 that bite, and gorgeous spiders and their silk webs as strong as steel!
The first Clean Up Sydney Harbour event was started by Ian Kiernan (founder of Clean Up Australia Day) in 1989. In 2019 we need to focus on preventing the source of rubbish entering our environments including our waterways (usually single use items ) not just removing what has already accumulated.

  • In the first week of August 1944 At about 2 a.m. a Japanese ran to the camp gates and shouted what seemed to be a warning to the sentries. Then a Japanese bugle sounded. A sentry fired a warning shot. More sentries fired as three mobs of prisoners, shouting "Banzai", began breaking through the wire, one mob on the northern side, one on the western and one on the southern. They flung themselves across the wire with the help of blankets. They were armed with knives, baseball bats, clubs studded with nails and hooks, wire stilettos and garotting cords. #cowrapowcamp #cowra #cowrajapanesegarden #war #augest #1994 #ww2 #australia #prisonerofwarcamp #pow #nsw #towra #gardtower
