I can’t formulate the words right now to express how I feel. I’m crying without the need to watch the footage of another black human dying at police hands. I can’t watch, but neither can I look away. What does it take for a policeman (to PROTECT and SERVE!) to willingly suffocate a man to death? What does it take to feel comfortable doing this in front of an audience of civilians protesting and filming it happen? How common must behaviour like this be to be so fucking easy? To what level do white policemen dehumanise black people for this to be happening again and again and again and fucking again? The world is broken. Utterly broken and I don’t know how to fix it. What do we do? How do we actually make things change so that innocent people aren’t casually murdered by the very people employed to protect them? #GeorgeFloydWasMurdered #icantbreathe #BlackLivesMatter #systemicracism #oppression #georgefloyd

When I decided to save this beautiful new dress for a special occasion, I never imagined that would end up being for a concert for charity I’d record and film myself from my mama’s garden in the midst of a global lockdown. I look forward to wearing it again whilst spinning and dancing in a field, surrounded by friends! @alicetemperley your work is truly stunning 💗
Pants-hat and umbrella-sword. Makes perfect sense
Happy Earth Day dear ones. 🌿 Today my practice is to be where my feet are, and soak up the beauty immediately surrounding me. 🌎 Therefore I won’t write anything too long as much has already been said today. I just want to pay my respects to Mother Gaia, Bhumi Devi, who has nourished and supported us so lovingly through the destructive adolescence of our species. 💐 It’s now time to grow up and take care of our elders: the sea, the soil, the trees. Sending you all love 🌱
Today would’ve been Record Store Day and the release of my EP Love Letters on Vinyl. While we have delayed the release, you can still support your local record stores by buying from them online. And then maybe still buy mine another day when it’s finally released! 😝 #recordstoreday #rsdfillthegap #anoushkashankar #loveletters
Offering my gratitude for people’s kindness and generosity in sharing their gifts during this time. Sanity has come in various forms, but these women have truly helped, and I share them here in case they may help you too: @margiecrossfitshoreditch has trained and been a friend to me for ten years and my work with her informs any other practice I do. She is IT!!! Right now you can join her free weekday fitness sessions at 17:45 UK time on @camilamcconaughey live feed, and donate if you wish to womenoftoday.com @jasminehemsley is a beautiful soul and her free weekly Saturday gong baths have been so gorgeous! Also her recipes and wellness posts are super nourishing. @babsantonino is one of my favourite yoga teachers. She is kooky and wild and helps me get super deep into my bones and inner rhythms, whilst never compromising on function and form. @hannahwhittinghamyoga is blessedly continuing her Flow and Restore classes over Zoom. They combine vinyasa, Qi gong and yin and are such a great balance between active work and deep internal grounding. @hortense.suleyman is a dear friend and another badass yoga teacher offering classes online. I’m still buzzing from her lovingly leading a few of us through 108 surya namaskars on the Spring Solstice. @ayalayoga has been a beautiful resource for my children. Her kids’ yoga classes are fun and imaginative and her smile is so infectious! I wish you all a peaceful day 🙏🏽
Idea No.97 to delay screen-time: promise I’ll give Thing 1 photo credit on Instagram if he takes a nice photo of me... (Photo by Zubin Shankar Wright)
In a coronavirus-free alternate reality, I would’ve spent tonight onstage with many loved ones, celebrating my fathers Centenary. @NitinSawhney and I had planned to perform “Fathers," which we co-wrote in honour of our dads just months before they both passed away several years ago. I hope you enjoy this new, made-at-home rendition. I’m so grateful to Nitin for taking the time to make this video with me as an offering to my father on his 100th birthday.
Today would have my father and Guru Ravi Shankars HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY!!! To celebrate, I’ve asked many of my father’s students to help me record this music to share with you today. This is my father’s piece “Sandhya Raga, which I love dearly. I first got to perform it in my debut concert at thirteen, and it has been a nourishing staple I’ve returned to over the years. I like to think it would have made him smile to see us performing it together again, reuniting in music whilst spread out across the planet. #shankar100 #Ravi shankar #livefromhome
Hi everyone, this isn’t something I would normally do, but tomorrow I’m inviting you to join my family and me as we privately light a candle and say some prayers to mark my late father’s hundredth birthday. We were meant to have celebrated with a massive gala performance, but since that can’t happen, we’re inviting you to join us at home instead. Sending you love and light in these trying times! #ravishankar #shankar100
Thanks @oliviaharrison for asking me to take part in the Inner Light Challenge, which sees the Material World Foundation donate a dollar for every post shared to charities such as @savethechildren and @musicares So beautiful to reconnect with this amazing song and it’s deeply profound lyrics! #innerlight2020
Stuck for an idea of how to celebrate Mother’s Day during a pandemic? Just in case a suggestion is helpful: I’ll be buying gifts at the @chooselove shop in my mother’s name. As we all follow the guidelines to socially-distance and isolate, my heart breaks thinking of the millions in overcrowded and unsanitary refugee camps who don’t even have the option to do so. As a mother myself, I know I’d do anything for my boys, and I know my mother would do the same, and more, for me. I think of all the mothers who fled war and persecution with their children, risking dangerous boat journeys and ending up stuck with their families in nowhere lands; to now have this extra crisis thrust onto them is an unthinkable tragedy. Please help if you are able. Link in bio #chooselove #helprefugees #mothersday
Dear Friends, With a heavy but sure heart we are canceling the 7th April Ravi Shankar Centenary concert in London. So many musicians, artists and crew are now facing months of cancellations and insecurity so I know I am not alone in this disappointment. But I also know it’s the right thing to do for everyone’s safety. We will keep you updated on the remaining Centenary concerts worldwide. One love!!! @southbankcentre @norahjones @nitinsawhney
Random new photo to get your attention in order to say: got some HUGE shows coming up! Next month we begin celebrating what would’ve been my dad’s 100th birthday and will continue celebrating around the world! Swipe for details. More dates in India and elsewhere announced soon ☺️
Oh my goodness. I just realized that today marks twenty-five years since my very first concert. How have I been performing for a quarter of a century?! On that day I was thirteen, terrified and trembling backstage, as my heart threaded to jump out of my mouth. It was a celebration for my father’s 75th birthday and I played a solo in front of 2,500 people with none other than the one and only @officialzakirhussain on tabla. Today I tend to feel less fear, and I’ve learned to feel safe in that magical vulnerability that comes from sharing one’s heart from the stage. I’m so grateful to my parents for starting and guiding me on this journey, and to all the incredible people who have been a part of my musical story, some onstage and many who were never visible. I remember you. I love you. Thank you. Photo by @photolauralewis
