The great Terry Jenner aka TJ or the spin doctor as Heals nicknamed him - was easily the best spin bowling coach I ever came across and there isn’t enough room to type everything the great man taught me - but with TJ’s mentoring I was able to achieve at a high level that totally outweighed my expectations. In particular - the planning that goes behind bowling leg spin. TJ taught me so much on the importance of a plan and not to just react to a situation - in particular the 3 W’s, what (delivery to bowl) when (to bowl a particular delivery) and why (I’m bowling it) as well as alignment, spinning the ball up and thinking high (re my arm - as I was a round arm bowler). This helped me understand the mindset behind bowling when I was young and not just letting go of the ball and hoping the batsman made a mistake. Once I understood how to set up a batsman - all sorts of different plans developed - along with feel (sensing the moment and being able to execute under intense match conditions). He also told me often - that bowling leg spin is extremely difficult and I should enjoy the good days and have fun as there will be many tough days out there on the field (isn’t that the truth). I was very lucky that I played in a wonderful era of Australian cricket and with some all time great players too - I was lucky that I had more good days than bad whilst playing and loved every single minute of it. I tried hard to make cricket fun, entertaining and make bowling leg spin cool too ! TJ understood me and our bond was unique and strong. RIP TJ we miss you ❤️
Loved my battles with these two legends - unfortunately they won most of the time 😩😂 !!! But I hope our battles on the field entertained everyone & you all enjoyed them. Both @brianlaraofficial & @sachintendulkar were easily the best batsman of my generation. Ps Happy birthday BC, have a great day buddy 👍
Continuing on with the theme of people who have inspired me and influenced me over my journey so far. At the top of that list are my three amazing children - @brookewarne @jacksonwarne18 & @summerwarne Without banging on and on about the joy they bring to my life and sounding to soppy for you, let me share a little ! Hahaha. My children fill me with laughter, joy, and above all - love. I’m so proud of them. It’s difficult to describe the love you have for your own children, but it makes you smile every time you look at them. Even though they are turning 23,21 & 19 - I will always see them as the picture above. My children are my number 1 priority and always will be. They inspire me to be the best person I can & motivate me on a daily basis. I love being a father (Even if it means saying yes to silly tik tok videos 😂😂). I remember coming home after cricket or work when they were little and the 3 of them would come running and jumping up on me for a cuddle and yell - Daddy. Wow !!! Brooke, Jackson and Summer you inspire me daily and I love you up to the sky and back ! ❤️
Yesterday I posted a pic of michael Jordan & I. What an honour that was to hang out with the great man @jumpman23 and discuss what inspires him and drives him. Also, we talked about AFL and Cricket (He loved both sports). So I thought who else have I learnt from, talked to - or has influenced me over my journey so far. Today’s pic is with the legend @tigerwoods ! I’ve had the great pleasure of spending time with Tiger a few times as well and got to know the man - we both enjoyed discussing / swapping thoughts about the mental side of sport, mental toughness and overcoming setbacks ! Lastly, we talked about entertaining people and messing with opponents heads - yep we both laughed about certain moments ! If this is interesting to you all - then I will continue to post some more pics about the people who I’ve met, inspired me and learnt from over my life ? ❤️
